Australian sales charts, week ending 13/01/08

PALGN News | More chart movement in the post-holiday shuffle.
With the relative lack of game releases in the post-holiday period, we're seeing a lot of jostling in all top ten formats, as catalogue sales of recent (and not so recent) games make their pushes to belatedly join the game libraries of console owners throughout the nation.

Bouncing back to number one is is Sega's Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Wii, followed by the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 and The Simpsons Game on DS, down from number two last week. Next up is Super Mario Galaxy, quickly becoming a perennial charter, with Mario making three from the top five with New Super Mario Bros coming in next.

Filling out the lower five we have the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed, Smackdown vs Raw 2008 on PS2, the Xbox 360 Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, and the original Brain Training.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

A PS3 game in the top 10 charts? Not only that but it also beat the 360 version of the same game! There's something you don't see every day. Also of note is the lack of Singstar: Hurray icon_razz.gif

The fact that Flight Simulator X is charting well on PC is rather worrying. It's indicating that PC sales as a whole are so low that a rather specialized game that won't appeal to many is charting well.

I find it sad that junk like Mario & Sonic at the olympics can outsell quality titles like Mario Galaxy, CoD 4 ect.

I don't consider those games to be quality titles^ maybe to some.

Makes you wonder if those 'timed exclusive' approaches are paying off after all. Haze is the other pseudo-exclusive title Song has been backing. Lets see if lightning strikes twice.

Well that looks much better compared to the last chart, I guess.

Perhaps, though I'm not sure how you relate that to this chart though? Assassins Creed was released on X360 and PS3 the same day and has sold better on 360 by a large margin worldwide. Just not this week in Australia! If you knew that and just meant that other games have increased the PS3 userbase who then buy AC then.. err, ignore icon_razz.gif

Nice to see for change, an indication of the way the market is beginning to change with all those PS3s out there now. A few months ago that would have never happened.
