POTW: Will you buy GTA IV locally or import?

PALGN Feature | Let us know.
Welcome a new feature of ours here on PALGN, the poll of the week. At the beginning of every week we'll be posting up a poll we'd like our readers to answer.

Then, every Sunday we'll post up the results. We've decided to kick the poll off with a rather simple question: will you be purchasing Grand Theft Auto IV in Australia or will you be importing? Grand Theft Auto IV is due for release on April the 29th and Australians were recently disappointed to find out that the Australian version of the game has been edited.

So, let us know at the following link whether you will be buying Grand Theft Auto IV in Australia or importing the game. Don't forget to check back next Sunday for the results and our next survey.

I'm importing. $75 beats $100+, of course, but mainly I just want an uncensored version.

I won't be buying it untill I get a job and then I pay off my $150 I owe to my Mum. Or I could wait untill my Birthday or Christmas!

Going to import due to cheapness, but wait and see if the 360 version is region free, otherwise I'll buy here.

you missed an option, im getting both 1 censored AU special edition and a UK import standard edition

I'll be buying it locally in Canada. I'm going to wait a bit before I buy it, as I'm a sucker for special editions, so I'll wait till I see some of them floating around just like the Halo 3 Ledgendary Editions that are now $60 CAD.....

Buying locally. I'd say it'll be worth the price and I'm not fussed about the censoring.

Buying locally for two reasons: one being that it's more convenient to do so and I struggled to get the copy I secured, two being that it means I get it on release day.

If the content is significant then yes absolutely I will import it but otherwise no, it's not really worth it.

I might end up getting a local 360 copy when more details come out about the downloadable content.

I'd be careful with a post like this Luke. You're essentially asking people if they're going to be comitting a crime. Importing the foregin version would be importing an item that would have been refused classification.. As we know - it is illegal to import for sale or even posess materials that have been refused classification.

"it is illegal to import material that is "Refused Classification" and delivery may be stopped by Customs".
it hasn't been refused classification though, the edits were made before it was classified.

Okay its a thin wire im walking but it hasn't been banned or refused classification

I'll be importing for about $70 after the coupon from Play-Asia, Paying less while Getting More.

i have my copy on preorder from amazon.com, a week or two doesn't concern me, i was more concerned about missing out on the whole title and the fact that get it for a far cheaper price with game guide than the australian version. It seems like a no brainer to me although I can understand some people that want to get the game first up. just dont rush it ok? Grand theft auto is a game to savour over time, remember, its not a race. icon_smile.gif

I'll be buying locally, the cut content doesn't worry me to be honest and really the collectors edition on 360 cost me about $75 due to trade in deals.

I’ll be buying it locally as I want to get into it ASAP and the censorship doesn’t appear to affect the game much. If it turns out the censorship does bug me I’ll most likely import a PS3 copy from Play-Asia as well.

Since when do Amazon ship games to Australia?

Also I've been hearing that there's a possibility that the games will be censored based on your consoles region, not the game. This may or may not be true (hopefully not) but my question is; I bought my console in Europe but have my region set to Australia for XBox Live. Which one of those would determine the region for the games?

Import when I can, currently getting my ass kicked in COD4 by people like John_solids and his AFK crew! (Another F****n' Kill) ????

Amazon ship certain game titles to Australia, but not all games.

As for the region of your games, your console actually determines the actual region. So since you purchased your console in Europe it would be a PAL console. Live will only determine what servers you connect to, not the region of the games.

Pre-ordered at Big W since there selling it for $84. I was going to import, untill i realised there would be alot of people importing from play-asia, and that i never really missed the removed content from the other titles, i can't imagine its going to be that big a deal.

Both. Buying locally from EB, playing until import arrives, selling local copy off or returning within 7 days to EB.

i think you will find that PS3 owners will be more inclined to import rather than 360 owners simply because the PS3 version is definitely region free.(according to play asia and also because I think all ps3 games are region free... I could be wrong)

I think you will find that if you did a ps3 poll and a separate 360 poll, you would probably find that more PS3 owners will import (on percentage) than 360 owners.

Well that’s my guess icon_biggrin.gif

I know that I have a PAL console but I guess the question I'm asking is, if somehow it's the hardware that determines if the game is cut/uncut not the software, would the game know it's a European console and decensor the game?

I'm importing already but just wondering if anyone knows the answer.

Weird about the Amazon thing, didn't realise they shipped some games but good to know I guess.

I'll probably do that as well.

Locally.

I need to get rid of my copy of Genji and JBs 'Trade 2 PS3 Games for GTAIV' sounds more than fair.

I am very surprised at just how many people say they are importing it.

Myself, I am picking it up at EB at 10am tomorrow.

It may not have been refused classification - but at the same time it hasn't 'been classified' in its unedited form - and i'd be careful around anything like that.. one dvd importer recently got in trouble for selling titles that hadn't been classified locally (no they weren't porn.. just hard to find niche topic stuff).
