More Guitar Hero World Tour details confirmed

PALGN News | Packed with Smashing Pumpkins.
Activision has today announced that the latest offering in the Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero World Tour, will feature a new single from the popular U.S. band The Smashing Pumpkins.

The new song is entitled ‘G.L.O.W’, and will be available for download post-launch as part of a three-song collection, with previously released songs ‘1979’ and ‘The Everlasting Gaze’. In its press release, Activision advises that ‘this marks the first time a band has recorded a new song exclusively for the franchise which will be released afterwards, giving Guitar Hero fans exclusive access to Smashing Pumpkins music before anyone else.’

In addition, anyone who ever enjoyed playing along to the opening riff of the 1993 hit 'Today' on their ‘real’ guitar, will be excited about the inclusion of the catchy song on the game disc at launch. To complete the experience, The Smashing Pumpkins’ singer/songwriter and lead guitarist Billy Corgan will also be available as an in-game character to either play as or along with, as per past iterations of the game featuring real-world guitarists Slash and Tom Morello.

As reported yesterday, Guitar Hero World Tour is due for release in Australia on all platforms on November the 12th.

If it is, im in. Thats not too much, considering rock band was tipped to be at ~$400

And have you seen the guitar?! Its like a stratocaster or something, lol, not good with guitars, but it looks freaking awesome!

Put side to side like that the GH:WT guitar looks... really lacking. However! This news of massive Pumpkins love for GH makes me want it more and more.

Hummpf...

Ideally I'd like to be able to buy (Ha! Buy? Locally?! Import...) Rockband 2, and use the instruments from that with GH... but I just don't have any faith that they will end up fully compatible, no matter how Sony and MS try to talk that up.

Really? I think the Rock Band one looks incredibly try-hard, for lack of a better word. There's no reason for it to look exactly like a guitar other than allowing people to pretend they might actually have some actual musical talent, is there? I'd be much happier with the toy guitar-like design of GH, considering I'm playing a video game.

I understand what you're saying, but I can't help but think 'this is a toy so it should look like a toy' is a bit of a cop-out. Granted, the faux-wood neck on the RB guitar looks... well, thoroughly wank (it pains me to admit this, I'm a sucker for faux wood grain). But, on the flipside, the 'body' of the GH guitar is barren to the point of a joke. It's like they've just gone 'It functions, who cares how it looks?'.

In the end the real clincher is how well both of them play, not look - but I still feel that style plays a part in overall onjoyment. At least for me.

You play in front of a mirror, don't you? icon_cool.gif

No, but if you can't visualize a tiny reflection of yourself in each wide open, adoring eye of the audience while you rock the **** out... well, you're just not playing the same game. icon_razz.gif

I meant buy - not "but" ....

Personally, I like the GH one better. Then again, it looks like it suits a more heavier type of listener such as myself. icon_smile.gif

I've heard $349 from a friend of mine who works for GAME. Not in the store, in the operations. I hope you're right and he's wrong though!

I'm gonna have to get a Rock Band 2 guitar. I'm thinking of naming my firstborn child Stratocaster.

EDIT: New plan. I'm gonna get World Tour bundle and then RB2 Strat separately. icon_surprised.gif

Knowing my luck, it'll be only be one guitar and the game, no drums or mic. Anyone want to prove me wrong?

If it's $299 for 2 guitars, drums and a mic WITH game, I'm so in.

Have they improved the size of the guitars? Being an islander I look like i'm playing a Ukulele

Looks like i will be getting a guitar bundle + drums. which i assume could be bought for $100 odd.
