This Week's Releases - 10/11/08

PALGN Feature | The world goes on tour, and then to war.
This week, the latest title in the music simulator series Guitar Hero lands in store. Guitar Hero World includes the likes of Michael Jackson's ‘Beat It’ and Linkin Park's ‘What I've Done’ (click here for the complete track list), and in a first for the series, players can now join a microphone and drum kit to their shenanigans. Guitar Hero World Tour comes in three different packages; you can purchase the standalone game, the wireless guitar and game, or the complete bundle which includes the wireless guitar, microphone, drums and game. To ensure you don't pay top dollar, check out our bargain round-up of each version. Guitar Hero World Tour is released on Wednesday for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Wii.

Activision's blockbuster shooter Call of Duty: World at War takes the fight to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PC. Developed by series regular Treyarch, the series returns to World War II with players pitted against Pacific invaders and Nazi's barricaded in Berlin. Call of Duty: World at War features campaign co-op, new weapons such as the flamethrower and the all beauty of the Call of Duty 4 graphics engine. For our impressions of the first-person shooter, head over to our latest preview.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners are in for another treat this week, with Mirror's Edge scheduled for release on Thursday. Published by Electronic Arts and developed by Battlefield veterans DICE, you assume the role of Faith, a courier whose job is to run information across a city locked down by government authorities. Gameplay takes place entirely in first-person, with players running through buildings and atop skyscrapers to evade the authorities and deliver packages. The demo for Mirror's Edge is currently available on Xbox Live and PSN.

World of Warcraft fans can reach level 80 and explore the new continent of Northrend in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and the latest version of Football Manager is released on PC. The Nintendo DS also has a few titles in the pipeline this week, including Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almin and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party.

Finally, those with a Nintendo Wii can battle terrorists and the forces of nature in Disaster: Day of Crisis, destruction derby racer MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is released on PlayStation 3, and Command and Conquer 3: Red Alert marches onto Xbox 360.

Motorstorm 2 and Mirror's Edge for me.
Listening to the Mirror's Edge theme now, it's a beautiful song.

This week seems to have some decent releases. The biggest probably being WoW Wotlk.

Next week doesn't look quite as exciting. The last Remnant looks interesting but I haven't heard anything about it at all. It's like a Japanese action game on the unreal engine isn't it?

Hey, hey, hey! Wasn't Mirror's Edge hitting on PC, too?

Is this just another in a long line of 'consoles first, PC later' or was I mislead from the beginning?

Mirror's Edge
I guess that serves me right for getting Fallout 3 on the say semester ended - now I have to hold out for 5 days while I do all of my exams (I have 3 in 3 days, which is how I like it, just wish that they were before ME came out...).

Can't wait to try that one. I've avoided the demo like the plague to resist the urge to get it and fail uni. icon_razz.gif

The street date has been broken for ME anyway, people have been buying copies at EB today.

After seeing Mirror's Edge in action on Good Game probably wait for it to hit the bargain bins.
Sadly I can see some good / better titles getting swamped this year by the "hype" titles.
