This Week's Releases - 17/11/08

PALGN Feature | Banjo and Bond to the left.
This week, Valve's team-based first-person shooter Left 4 Dead leaps onto Xbox 360 and PC. In the aftermath of a devastating apocalypse, players are left stranded with other survivors in a zombie-infested city. Over the course of four 'movies' – each comprised of five maps – you must protect your fellow stragglers from the undead while ensuring there is enough firepower to survive the onslaught. Left 4 Dead can be played with up to three other buddies, and after putting the shooter through its paces at eGames, we can say that co-op is the best way to progress through the game. For further impressions, head over to our preview from E3. Left 4 Dead infects retail shelves everywhere this Thursday.

Coinciding with the release of James Bond: Quantum of Solace in cinemas, the video game adaptation of the same name is released on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, DS and PC. Developed by Treyarch and built on the Call of Duty 4 engine, the latest Bond game follows the events of Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace. Quantum of Solace is played mostly in first-person, but whenever 007 takes cover or performs a special 'takedown' move, the camera switches to a third-person perspective (similar to Rainbow Six: Vegas). For our thoughts on James Bond: Quantum of Solace, read through our latest hands-on preview.

There are a few console exclusives in the works this week. SingStar Volume 3 (click here for the complete track list) and SingStar ABBA are released on PlayStation 3 (the latter is also available on PS2). Naruto gets another outing on Microsoft's console in Naruto: The Broken Bond, while Rare's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts also makes its way onto Xbox 360. Meanwhile, Star Wars: Clone Wars makes the jump to hyperspace on Wii. The Nintendo DS earns a modified version of Clone Wars, and Bangai-O Spirits comes across the sea to Australia.

Electronic Arts' racer Need for Speed: Undercover is released across the board on Thursday. Iconic characters such as Batman and Superman face off in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and players can ride the slopes in Shaun White Snowboarding, both on Xbox 360 and PS3. Finally, Alone in the Dark navigates its way to PlayStation 3 with a number of marked improvements.

Have you seen the reviews of NFS Underground? OUCH.. I played it for 15 mins at eGames and when I got to the annoying 'do $25000 damage in the city' part, the guy had to reset it.. I asked why, cause this is crap and the city is so bland, its hard to find stuff to break? He didnt like that..
Midnight Club LA looks and plays a lot better than NFS from what I've seen and reviews would seem to agree.. sad cause it used to be a great series..

Star Wars - The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels is yet to see retail shelves. EB stated they haven't received their stock yet and the same seems to be the case in Kmart after checking their shelves..
