Battlefield 1943 confirmed

PALGN News | First trailer released.
Earlier this week, reports were filtering out of New York that a new game in EA's Battlefield series, named 1943, was in the pipeline. Lo and behold, EA have gone and confirmed that the game is indeed in development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

As one might infer from the title, the game will take the series back to World War II - more specifically, the Pacific front. The same formula we've come to expect from the series appears to be intact here, with up to 24 players able to fight it out in various locations online. Of course, weapons and vehicles will be plentiful, and there will also be destructible environments thanks to the Frostbite engine.

Most interestingly, EA will be distributing the game online, with players able to download it onto their PC, or through Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. This would suggest a somewhat budget price point, but EA haven't confirmed anything as of yet.

Battlefield 1943 isn't far off either, with a mid-year release mentioned by EA. A trailer has surfaced on the game's official website, should you be interested.

Bah. What has happened to the core principal of Battlefield, 64 player battles. Might as well stick with the grenade spam in COD4 if they limit it to 24 players.

REALLY looking foward to this. 1942 was (and still is) one of my fave FPS', and this is looking to be the ultimate remake.

I'm expecting the answer will be "Frostbite isn't good enough for that..."

Mmmm makes me want to dust off my copy of 1942!

But didn't 1942 have Pacific battles in it anyway? icon_eek.gif

I am very dissapointed EA, bringing out all this mediocre titles. Battlefield 1942, Vietnam and 2 did incredibly well, why the shift in focus to consoles and download only ventures?

Bring on BF3, BF2 with some better balance, aircraft weaker, anit-air stronger, some different weapons and I will be a happy boy.

The Frostbite engine is a pretty good engine, however hopefully DICE have taken the time to give it some tweaks to futher improve it. Probably one of my biggest issues with it is probably that in Bad Comapny the environments sempt a bit too 'clean' for a battlefield. Make it a little more gritty, add in some more dynamic lighting and make the damage environments a little more dynamic (some of the houses in Bad Company sempt to be supported by nothing more than an interoir wall and it could come up nicely.

What I'd also like to see is a night/day option to the game, imagine fighting it out on Wake Island using flashlights and night vision. Also 24 plays should probably be knocked up to 36. From the screenshots the game looks decent, maybe a bit too bright and colorful for a gritty battlefield experiance but good none the less.

24 players? Bah this is crap. Can BF3 please come out on PC.

I'll assume the maps will be slightly smaller than previous efforts in order to accommodate the 24-players.

Besides, do people here remember the 64-player battles of old? They were gigantic clusterfudges of repetitive instant spawn deaths by snipers, helicopters and almost invincible jets.

Of course, this new trailer seemed keen to show off the dominance of aircraft, hopefully they're as easier to shoot down in this new game.

I still play it and think its great. The fun of it comes with being in a good squad using teamwork against the jets, tanks and snipers.

I loved all Battlefield's but have taken a liking to 2142. I hope they will make another futuristic fps sometime in the future.

Just watched the trailer and it changed my mind completely, the map looks quite big. Sill concerned about number of people though.

Hopefully we get an ANZAC expansion pack.

A WW1 expansion pack of a WW2 game? And a boring assault at that... Yeah, I hope not. Patriotism should never come before common sense.

But there was a remake of certain 1942 maps on BF:Vietnam Redux edition. So yeah, 1942 in BF:Vietnam basically anything is possible icon_razz.gif

Seconded. IMO 2142 is the best Bf game and I had much more fun than in BF2, Vietnam, Modern Combat or Bad Compnay (Both Xbox).

The main reason I liked 2142 more then the others is that capturing and destroying you're big ship was so much **** fun.

There was some failure though with the models, such as being thrown around, sentry guns trying to shoot through walls and they whole place being a bottleneck.

I have stuck with BF2.

True, but even with those issues it still managed to be fun as hell.

I'm with benza, the ships added a whole new level of fun to the BF formula.

I prefer the soldier set up and customisation on 2142 to 2, also.
