Australian sales charts, week ending 15/02/09

PALGN News | At least it's not ALL Nintendo this week.
Yet again, the top two games in the Australian charts swapped places this week, with Wii Fit jumping back up into the top spot - again - and Mario Kart Wii dropping down to a lowly second place. It's cute how they share the first place. The game holding third place hasn't changed from last week - it's still Brain Training, for the DS of course. Right behind it in fourth place is its younger brother, More Brain Training, moving up a slot from last week. Making it three DS games in a row is the rather odd return of The Simpsons Game, which enjoyed massive success when the movie was released in 2007. And now, apparently.

Hurrah! Fifth place is actually quite exciting due to it being a brand spankin' new entry into the charts! F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is the game, and it's the Xbox 360 version that's surfaced ahead of the pack. This caused the Wii Play/Wiimote bundle to slip to seventh spot. Positions eight and nine are eerily familiar, both occupied by the aforementioned F.E.A.R. 2, with the PC version coming in ahead of the PS3 incarnation. It's business at usual in tenth place, with Super Smash Bros. Brawl keeping the charts balanced heavily in Nintendo's favour.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

Why are 360 games under 50$ excluded and yet PS3 games have to be under 60$ to be excluded?

They are the same RRP usually when released. That error gives the 360 games an advantage, especially when titles like GTA4 are being discounted?

To me the top ten is irrelevant until casual gaming is considered as a different genre in the video gaming medium.

Just senseless statistics if Wii Play/with remote is considered a game.

Just go straight to the PC, PS3 and 360 for what core gamers are playing.

Is there any way to get stats on Playstation Network and XBox Live purchases?

The PS3 especially seems to have some brilliant low price downloadable games that never get counted in these stats. I'd love to know how well games like flOwer and WipEout HD performed when they were released..

Agree totally about the DLC sale stats.

Would be great to see what the actual "attach rate" is for DLC especially GTA4,Fable 2,Fallout 3 etc....but we may never see any if they perform poorly against actual game sales.

Funny how Live which is a closed controlled network fails to disclose this but they will drop Demo download figures in a heartbeat.

I completely disagree with you realitybites. There are a number of "core" gaming games on Wii, so going straight to the PS3/360/PC charts won't help. The whole point of sales chart is to see what's popular. Why not include casual games just because they are performing well? I understand what you are saying about WiiPlay, but that has nothing with it being casual. I would think that games like LBP bundled with PS3 should and would not count either. Wii play is really just an annoying anomaly.

casual gaming? gaming is all gaming, it should be for different people and tastes. In music u have so many different genres, so why not in game? Wii provides more fun than ever and that's why sony also focuses on singstar and buzz now(they are also very fun), just because u grab a copy of resistance 2 ps3 doesn't mean u are a gamer, a true gamer wouldn't fuss over and just get on with playing.
