Books based on The Elder Scrolls to arrive

PALGN News | First book set after the events of Oblivion.
Bethesda has revealed that two books based upon their video game series, The Elder Scrolls, are in the works being authored by New York Times bestselling author Greg Keyes.

The first novel out later this year, The Infernal City, is set after the events that take place in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and finds the citizens of Tamriel ongoing a new threat to their existence. A mysterious floating city is killing people and raising them as undead, leaving an unlikely duo with the fate of the kingdom.

Author Greg Keyes is well known for his three Star Wars novels in the New Jedi Order series, as well as the four books in his popular The Age of Unreason series.

"We've been big fans of Greg's work for a long time, and we're thrilled he agreed to bring his talents to The Elder Scrolls," said Pete Hines, vice president of public relations and marketing for Bethesda Softworks. "We see these books as a natural extension of the franchise and think fans will love the stories and characters Greg has created."

Well, I guess that was pretty, err, likely...

Nice to see ES being canonised, but I just hope that they become more than the standard "elves and swords" fantasy novels. Hopefully some more mature themes, deeper plotlines, and arcane characters will be included. In other words, Keyes should ignore Oblivion and take his inspiration from Morrowind (and perhaps Daggerfall/Arena as well).

EDIT: W00T Post #1000!! Snuck up on me, that one did.

This could be interesting, assuming he steers clear of anything Oblivion and Morrowind related, god knows we suffered enough with the games.

Heres hoping he will use Daggerfall as his main inspiration, or Arena, he may even go the route of Elder Scrolls Adventures, seeing as the games were stopped he may take it upon himself to expand the Adventures theme. A post Oblivion Adventure title would have some potential.
