The PALGN Podcast: E3 2009

PALGN Feature | With microphones in hand, we examine the gaming event of the year.
This week, in a very special episode of the PALGN Podcast, we cast our minds back to just over seven days ago and take a look at what was E3 2009. In our special E3 episode, PALGN regulars Anthony, Adam, Jeremy and James take a look at all the information to have emerged from the gaming show of the year. Topics on the podcast agenda include Project Natal, the unveiling of the PSP Go, and whether E3 2009 was truly a return to form for the event. Clocking in at just under 40 minutes, we discuss everything from the hottest games on show, to which of the ‘big 3’ (Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo) had the best press conference.

Remember, if you don't want to miss any of our weekly podcasts, make sure to subscribe via your favourite podcasting service, whether it be Apple iTunes, Creative ZenCast, or a GPL alternative such as Juice.

Next week, we'll be returning to our regular weekly podcast schedule. Kicking off next episode will be the classic topic of ‘PC versus Console Gaming’, hosted by PALGN's resident PC enthusiast and ProMode writer Denny. With Anthony, Jeremy and James standing firmly in the console camp, it'll be an episode you won't want to miss!

So much Nintendo hate! icon_razz.gif

In defense of Nintendo, even though they reuse old franchises, the games are usually both highly polished and have innovative gameplay, which is more than you can say for most leading franchises on any consoles. That said, Nintendo had little that would appeal to ps3 and xbox fans. If I wasn't already a Mario & Metroid fan the conference would seem pretty bad to me.

In comparison I reckon PS3 gamers have the most to look forward to. Even though most of the conference wasn't technically "new", they seem to have the best lineup of games over the next 12-18 months.

Regarding the motion controls, I agree that Sony had the most impressive demo, my favorite part being when he lifted the chin of skeleton using the tip of his sword. To me, that demonstrates real accuracy that I'm not sure the Wiimote and Natal can replicate. If Natal turned out just and quick and accurate that would be awesome.

I can't believe some of you haven't played Monkey Island. You should definitely invest in the remake when it's released. That's one classic every self-respecting gamer should play.

Who was harping on about "ee-pee's" early on in the show? I'm pretty sure it's "eye-pee" as in Intellectual Property.

the guy having a rant about SONY is hilariously terrible

"HOME... are we ever going to see it?"

um, its online. LOL. can't construe his thoughts.

* I don't play HOME but its made money for SONY selling rubbishy bits and pieces of 3D.

In his defence, he was more or less referring to when we're actually going to see major improvements to it. It's ultimately a failed concept based on what they initially wanted to achieve. Sure they work, and do give Sony some form of profitability, however the appeal is low.

Home is at least a beautiful little tech demo of what the PS3 can achieve graphically. Downside is it seemed to take a long time to download, and to transition between areas.

Don't know how much more I can take of James' cynical responses to just about every topic he's asked about... You could always take up stamp collecting.

Whatever happened to Evan and Daniel?

^They have moved on to greener pastures, Daniel I believe is travelling atm.
