Batman sells nearly 2 million copies

PALGN News | Also breaks a Guinness world record.
Considering its great reviews and the popularity of the Batman character, it should come as no surprise that Batman: Arkham Asylum has sold nearly 2 million units since its release at the end of August. We believe this is worldwide, although the LA Times article doesn’t specify.

If that wasn’t enough acclaim, the game has even achieved a Guinness World Record for ‘Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever’ (we didn't even know there was a record for that). The game has achieved an industry average score of 91.67 out of 100 from reviews around the world, and took the Guinness record title away from Marvel vs Capcom 2 which had an average of 90.0.

A PC edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum is expected to be released in PAL regions on 18 September.

I don't see what's great about the game... Am I the only one that feels that way? But I haven't played it so who am I to judge. :/ But breaking a record, thats new..

my mate at work bought a copy today. But because he is doing his 20,000 word thesis... he left it at my desk!

so I get to spend quality time with it.

Meier - no offence, but asking what is so good about a game without having played it doesn't make a lot of sense.

I understand if the concept of a Batman game doesn't interest you, but if you want to know why others think it's great, play it.

You haven't even tried the demo? It is on PC, PS3 and 360.

I didn't care much for it either until I had tried the demo (which is set to easy). Just thought it was just another tie-in, using a known character for easy sales.

Well I've played it and I agree, what IS so good about this game?

It's tremendously average in my opinion, and a lot of the animations are loose or something.

If you ask me its another of those over hyped licensed games like Star Wars The Force Unleashed. Sure it's decent, but it's not great.

It's tremendous, don't be silly.

Yeah, I had low expectations for this title until I saw the raving reviews. cause of all the 10/10 reviews I bought it day one and was blown away.

Play through it from start to finish, then state your opinion please. I'm no real fan of batman yet I still think this is the best game of 09 so far.

I don't like games that can be completed in a day. But thats just me.

Therefore, you don't like games which are less than 12 hours in duration, at least for their main 'single player campaigns' on default (normal) difficulty? Wow, that rules out a lot of titles.

Here's an idea, for every game which runs less than 12 hours from start to finish, just hit the rest button right before the end and start a new save file. Do this four or five times and pow, you have replicated the experience of playing a repetitive 60-hour grind-fest crammed with mindless filler.

If by "completed in one day" you mean rushing through to finish it in 8 hours without enjoying it or solving the riddles or playing the challenge rooms, then fair enough.

However, if you're playing and finishing a game that lasts for 8 to 12 hours in one day, you need other hobbies. That aint good for you. Get some sun.

In my opinion, if the game is the best 8 hours you've ever played, or at least a very good time, then it's worth the shorter length. 30 hours of average gameplay doesn't make the average game better. Of course, if you compare 30 hours of awesome to 8 hours of awesome, 30 hours will always win over. But show me a game that maintains interest for longer than 12 hours without being too repetitive and I'll show you a picture of my girlfriend Scarlett Johansson.

It's a bit like saying you only ever go to the movies to watch three hour films cause an hour and a half movie, no matter how great, is just too short for the value for money. Personally, I'll take Wall-E over Titanic.

Thank you Jason for expressing an opinion identical to my own without being a sarcastic git.
Don't worry, I enjoy reading the posts of a sarcastic git than a rational polite person.

Or maybe I'm being a sarcastic git.

No, I ain't.

Anyhoo, got some great news at work tonight so it looks like I may be able to purchase this over the coming days. We shall see.

OT - am I the only one who enjoys short length video games? I can't be arsed playing a game that's going to take me 20, 30, 40+ hours to finish unless it's really amazing.

I beat this game in one sitting and I find it a little easy - but this doesn't mean that the game isn't bloody fantastic.

I DO agree the animations are stiff and weird (particularly because as an animator-in-training, I notice every little thing and it's really irritating..), but the game is immersive as all hell. I've had moments of whispering to myself "I'm the damn batman" from how awesome the game feels and plays.

Short games are awesome when done right.

I'm not a batman fan but I really enjoyed this game. It deserves all the praise it gets.

Point expressed much better than the previous poster (including mine).

I just see/read all these people spending $100, playing it and finishing it straight away and that not what I am looking for. Some of the best games I have played are of the short variety.

What are you people whinging about, it's not just a bareboned single player title.

The game on normal is 10 hours. You have at least an extra 5 hours in there for the awesome Riddler challengers, which is the best use of a optional side quest in a game yet, plus at least 10 hours to prefect the challenge rooms, which are excellent, and the hard mode to play through which is another 10 at least.

There is at least 35+ hours there if you want to be technical.

I don't know what everyone is carrying on about in regards to the length of this game, it ain't short at all. LeonJ summed it up best. If people want to rush through a game, then that's their choice, but don't beat a game up because of it. Fools.
