This Week's Releases - 21/09/09

PALGN Feature | Oh dear – something terrific!
After a trilogy of titles starring the iconic Master Chief, Halo fans can now explore the sci-fi universe from the perspective of different solider battling the Covenant. In Halo 3: ODST, players assume the role of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper sent deep into enemy territory. Set between Halo 2 and Halo 3, the new game takes place entirely on Earth, exploring the events surrounding the Covenant occupation. As an ODST trooper, you no longer have the stamina of a green-armoured Spartan, instead relying on stealth and tactics to succeed in your near-impossible mission. In addition to the new campaign, Halo 3: ODST will include all Halo 3 multiplayer maps, and Firefight – a co-op mode akin to Gears of War's Horde, in which players battle waves of Covenant soldiers. Halo 3: ODST is set to deploy this Tuesday, either as standard edition or bundled with an ODST-themed controller.

The next first-person shooter scheduled for release is Section 8 on Xbox 360 and PC (fingers crossed it isn't delayed again). If you prefer playing videogames on PC, then you're in for a treat – Batman: Arkham Asylum will be in shops on Thursday. Our review of the Xbox version can be read here. MMORPG Aion: Tower of Eternity is also set to hit the PC this week. PlayStation 3 owners aren't left out in the dark either, with Katamari Forever and Cross Edge both arriving on Thursday.

The second instalment in the curious Professor Layton series, Professor Layton and Pandora's Box, arrives on store shelves this week. Working through over 150 new brainteasers, players must solve the mystery behind the death of Professor Layton's mentor, Doctor Schrader.

Rounding out the releases for the next seven days are the superheroes from Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 on PS3 and Wii (the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS iterations landed last week) and all things going well, King of Fighters XII may make an appearance on Xbox 360 and PS3.

I am hesitant to get Mini Ninjas. It looks fantastic, but i know it is going to end up in the bargain bin.

Hoping Katamari will range under 70 bucks at 69.95 or so. Then I will be picking it up.

I will definietly pick up KOF XII even though it will be at such a rip off price.

Katamari is tempting, but I've already got too many games to play. Somehow I think this will only get worse over the next 2 months or so as well =\

I'll be looking out for Katamari, Mini Ninjas, KOF XII, Cursed Mountain (possible rental), Spyborgs (Possible rental) and maybe Professor Layton 2.
