Brutal DLC in November

PALGN News | PS3 owners get it for free.
Details have emerged of the first downloadable content for Brutal Legend, with GamerNode reporting that the new content will be called "Tears of the Hextadon".

The map pack will consist of two new maps for Brutal Legend's strategy online multiplayer mode. The two maps are the “Circle of Tears” – which is surrounded by water, and the “Death's Fjord” map which takes place on an icy mountain pass.

However, in a move that will ignite flame-wars across the globe, the map pack will set Xbox 360 owners back 400 Microsoft points, while Sony PS3 owners will be able to get it completely free – for a certain period of time at least. Hmm.

President of Double Fine Productions and renowned game guru, Tim Schafer, said, "I play Brütal Legend online every night. And I need more maps! Circle of Tears is named after the crying of my vanquished foes on the battlefield, and Death's Fjord is obviously a tribute to my Nordic ancestors, and their love of fan geysers and… Well, actually I just thought the name was cool. See you online!"

The DLC will be available on Xbox Live from November 3, and on the PSN from November 5. The free period for the PlayStation 3 DLC will be until November 19. No reason has been given for the PSN getting the free download period. Make up your own reasons in the forum below.

Possibly to encourage more online players? All I can think of.

It must be free purely because it wasn't set a cost by the publishers and because of XBL's policy of charging for everything, it must be the only reason.

Maybe with the release of a map pack, they can get around to fixing the multiplayer. While lag in this type of game isn't as detrimental as an FPS, it's still annoying, and that's if you're lucky enough to get into a match.

Anyone got the 'six degrees of Schafer' acheivement yet? Although I really liked the single player, I'm not compelled at all to go online with this title.

I suppose I might as well download it if it's free. Presumably I'll always be able to get it for free by finding it in my download history if I delete it. I don't even have the game icon_lol.gif

It's a bloody good thing that it's free, it's nothing but a 100KB unlock key!
