EA CEO reiterates company focus on original IPs

PALGN News | CEO attempts to stress the importance of new IPs to the company's plans.
Attempting to quash fears that new intellectual properties will no longer feature in the future of Electronic Arts in the wake of the recent employee lay-offs, the company's Chief Executive Officer, John Riccitiello has stated that the company will not shift its focus back on its past behaviour of flooding the market with sequel titles.

While EA has been decidedly sequel happy in its recent past, this practice has dramatically changed in the past year, with the company also banking on a number of new IPs alongside sequels of proven franchise properties. In an interview with Industry Gamers, Riccitiello was critical of the current trends of rival publishers, while also stressing that EA will continue to innovate as well as provide gamers with additional titles to proven properties.

"I believe there are publishers out there that are milking franchises at their peril. I do think you can sort of stop innovating and do well while you coast for a couple of editions before a product starts to fall apart or a sector starts to fall apart. But I think we owe our customer – core or non-core – quality and innovation that really blows their minds every time we put a product out there. That's one of the reasons you see such high Metacritic scores from EA so consistently after we made the investment for it, and you'll continue to see new IP from us."

Kimberley - I think these articles are really good because we get to understand what happens behind the scenes. Roland

Somehow, EA and Activision seem to be switching places in my heart. That said, I'm not sure if that's because EA is getter better or because Activision is getting so much worse.

^ I think its a name.

I want BF3 and Mirror's Edge 2 before new IP's. It's good their not pumping out sequels though. I don't know when it happened but EA went from one of the worst companies to one that's willing to experiment.

Looks like they are capitalising on the current negative feelings toward Activision. An easy way to improve their standing with the so called 'hardcore' market, well played EA, well played.
