Title: A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia
System: NES (Virtual Console)
Price: 500 Wii Points
Following the recent remake of A Boy and His Blob on Wii, Nintendo has released the original NES version. In the game you play as a boy who is followed by a mysterious blob creature. By feeding the blob jellybeans, it will turn into various contraptions which help you traverse through levels. Transformations include umbrellas, trampolines, ladders and a bubble that lets you swim/breathe underwater. At the time of release it was a fairly innovative platformer, so it might bring back some fond childhood memories for those who haven’t checked out the remake.
Title: Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
System: Turbografx16 (Virtual Console)
Price: 700 Wii Points
We’re a little surprised this one popped up as it’s actually an import title, despite no formal announcements of there being another Hanabi Festival. Regardless, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition doesn’t really offer anything new from the other versions that are available, but it’s a faithful port of the original arcade release and is 100 points less than its SNES and Sega Mega Drive counterparts.
Title: Moki Moki
System: WiiWare
Price: 800 Wii Points
Another addition to the already massive WiiWare puzzler library. This one sees you knock around the titular Moki by bending, twisting and rotating the environment in hopes of getting the little critters to the exit. Standing in your way, however, are deadly chasms, spinning blades and shifting gravity, so you better be careful when planning each move.
Title: Eat! Eat! Fight!
System: WiiWare
Price: 1000 Wii PointsEat! Eat! Fight! is the latest entry in the long running Japan-only series Tsuppari Oozumou,
so this actually marks the first time the franchise has reached Western territories. The game is a cross between a fighter and a puzzler, where players complete puzzles to get more food to stuff their sumo with. Your sumo obviously gets heavier and more powerful, giving him durability for the imminent sumo fight.
Title: Castle of Magic
System: DSiWare
Price: 500 DSi Points
It’s certainly nice to see another platformer on the DSi Store, lord knows they’re far and few between as it is. This particular title is from those wacky minds at Gameloft, and is a port of the iPhone game of the same name. Castle of Magic is a fairly standard, yet fun, game that should appeal to both beginner and experienced players alike. The DSi camera is utilised to customise the look of pick-up items, and gameplay takes place across both screens.
Title: Littlest Pet Shop
System: DSiWare
Price: 800 DSi Points
By the sounds of it this is another DSiWare release which is a smaller version of a full retail DS game. In Littlest Pet Shop you take care of one of three animals by brushing its hair, playing with its favourite toys, feeding it food, and dressing it up in different accessories. It’s safe to say this one is aimed towards the female market, so all the blokes out there should stay the hell away.
Title: Starship Patrol
System: DSiWare
Price: 500 DSi Points
Starship Patrol comes from those creative minds at Q Entertainment and puts a spin on the tower defence genre. The game is set in outer space and sees players strategically place weapons on space ships to protect the fleet from incoming enemies. You can also discover hidden power gems that unlock advanced attacks, including the ability to unleash a devastating black hole that sucks in all enemy units.
Title: myNotebook: Green
System: DSiWare
Price: 200 DSi Points
Sound familiar? That’s because this DSi application has been released twice before, the only difference is the colour scheme changes with each release. Just as its name implies, the application acts as a virtual notebook that lets you write notes and draw doodles whenever the need should arise.
