Australian sales charts, week ending 27/12/09

PALGN News | The last charts of 2009.
It's fitting that the final Australian sales charts of 2009 are dominated by the Nintendo Wii, with the console locking up the entire first half of the charts. Wii Sports Resort, having spent much of the second half of the year at the top of the charts, is right at the top, followed closely by New Super Mario Bros. Wii Fit Plus held onto its third place, not surprising given that the original Wii Fit was at the top of the charts for most of 2009. Wii Play moved into fourth place, continuing to sell years after its release thanks to the Wii remote that comes bundled with the game. Racer Mario Kart Wii also shows no signs of slowing down, despite slipping slightly to fifth place.

The other consoles finally get a look in at number six, with the PS3 edition of blockbuster shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 holding firm from last week. The Xbox 360 incarnation of the game is right behind it in seventh place. The time-bending stealthy action of Assassin's Creed II can be seen in both eighth and ninth place, this time with the Xbox 360 edition getting the better of its PlayStation 3 cousin. It's back to the Wii for the final game of the charts, with Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games re-entering the charts.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

I'm surprised to see James Cameron's Avatar so high up the Xbox 360 list, coming in at #3, considering the number of AAA releases around this time of season. I guess the kick-ass movie had something to do with that, hehe.
