As well as the standard Rock Band fare, the game will feature likenesses of the band and will give fans access to “more than 100 collectible images, and more than 40 minutes of rare and unreleased video from interviews, outtakes and performances”. The game will also incorporate the three-part vocal harmony gameplay mechanics that were introduced in The Beatles: Rock Band.
The songs announced so far include: ‘Brain Stew’, ‘Jaded’, ‘Hitchin’ a Ride’, ‘American Idiot’, ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ and 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'. If you’ve already downloaded the two Green Day packs from the Rock Band music store, you’ll also be able to play these songs in Green Day: Rock Band with “added vocal harmonies, unique performance visuals, and exclusive archival material”.
All of the songs are exportable to Rock Band and Rock band 2 (for a fee - US$9.99 with no local pricing announced yet). Interestingly, the media release says that the songs will also be compatible with the recently announced Rock Band 3, giving some hope that all previous downloaded songs will be carried across to the new titles (however, this has not yet been announced). Unfortunately, the export feature will not be available for the Nintendo Wii.
As well as the standalone edition of the game, a Green Day: Rock Band Plus edition has also been announced, which will feature “special packaging, export and six Green Day DLC tracks”. As usual, the game is compatible with all Rock Band instrument controllers, as well as most Guitar Hero and other third-party music video game peripherals and microphones.
