E3 2005: Day Three Roundup

PALGN News | Huge Revolution announcement tomorrow?
Most of the E3 conferences have not finished, however, this doesn't mean that there is going to be no new news for us to post in the coming days, often it is the last few days of E3 that bring us the biggest surprises.

We've heard that Nintendo are about to surprise everyone tomorrow by unveiling the first official footage from the Revolution, an image of the controller and even more concrete information. Tomorrow will be the day to see if any Revolution information is uncovered, and as always, if it is PALGN will be reporting it immediately, as it happens.

There were some big announcements today for the current generation of consoles, as well as the next-generation of consoles. The big news is that the XBox 360 will be recieving Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball 2, the even bigger news is that the game is basically complete and working on the original Xbox.

Konami made a few big announcements today, with DDR Ultramix 3 being announced and confirmed as coming to the XBox, as well as unveiling the first screenshots of Metal Gear Acid 2.

Ubisoft announced a new Brothers in Arms and Majesco surprised us all by announcing what seems like one of the worst games ever already, Jaws Revenge, it seems like Jaws will punish us by making us play this game..

Nintendo announced the return of A Boy and His Blob and we were also treated to Guilty Gear Dust Strikers images.

Overall, today was a quieter day than yesterday and Monday, but we think it is the calm before the Revolution, the Nintendo Revolution. Stay tuned!

Oh man, I pray... I seriously PRAY (and I am religious, so that's serious) that tomorrow Nintendo hits us hard with the Revolution.

It could quite possibly be the big thing that makes this otherwise crappy week for me awesome again (I've had a bad week with uni assignments...)

Please tomorrow!

There are like a million hints pointing towards at least something big happening tomorrow. Come on Nintendo... you can own E3 with this icon_smile.gif

What sort of hints?

I remember something on the Nintendo.com website saying something about Thursday during the countdown to the press conference... in one of those short video thingies...

But I mean, Nintendo seemed to confident at the press conference, even though they showed little of their new system... they have to have more... please...

Let's see.
  • Nintendo had a mysterious "Nintendo NOW" image up on their official US E3 site, which is currently unexplained. Possible link with Nintendonow.com, maybe, who claim that Reggie is not going to shut up until the end of E3.
  • Aries at the Broken Saints website, who has been trying to build up believability for a while (and succeeding; he predicted Revolution's superbackwards compatibility, among other things, in advance) claimed absolutely that something big was going to happen on the 19th, putting his reputation on the line for it
  • The Nintendogs game played at the pre-E3 press conference on the 17th had its date set to the 19th (subtle hint?). There are also interviews with Reggie and Perrin Kaplan scheduled for this date.
  • The "apparently fake" Nintendo ON video you might remember from a while back? People did a whois domain lookup on its site (which is currently redirecting to IGN) and found it was registered in Reggie's name. Something funny going on here. Maybe it was put up by Nintendo to add hype or leave clues (though obviously it's very unlikely that the system itself is real)?
  • IGN, who have ties with Nintendo thanks to their cooperation with the GameSpy online scheme, listed that (apparently fake!) video as a "must see". Doesn't happen everyday to fake videos.
  • Within that video there were references to the "right brain" being used to play games. A short while later, this is a main focus of Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference.
  • Nintendo ON video notes Revolution as a "Revolutionary System". At least one other (possibly believable) person has claimed this (that may have been Aries too, I can't be bothered to check right now) and there was an image of a disc with Nintendo RS floating on the net. This isn't much by itself, but open a windows command prompt and try pinging somerandomdomain.ign.com. You get nothing, but if you ping rs.ign.com... what's that? There's something there? And why have IGN not put up a Revolution site yet, even though we now know about the appearance of the console?
  • There's a photo IGN took of the show floor that displays a mysterious and unexplained "Club Revolution".

I definitely missed some stuff, but either IGN and Nintendo are working together to hide something and hype Revolution, or this is the biggest pile of coincidences I've ever seen icon_lol.gif

I'm definitely not going to put a pile of hope into it, as there are still tons of assumptions involved, and it still sounds quite farfetched, but there's at least a chance that something might happen. And, of course, if nothing does, we'll be finally rid of all this Aries / Broken Saints Revolution speculation, because his credibility will be permanently destroyed. icon_kero.gif

Hmmm...

Well...

That's a lot of cool stuff - possibly part of one of those there viral promotion campaigns?
Ah man, this is all too much suspense for me - I want to know if this speculation is founded or not.
All that stuff (some I found after I responded to your post Hyperworm - had to check out the rumours for myself, but there were some you said that I knew nothing of until now, so thanks!) seems so convincing - either a great secretive campaign, or an elaborate (but well done) hoax...

I guess the interview is at midday in LA, right?
That's around 4am here tomorrow, so... by the time I'm at my computer (say around 8-9am) if I don't see new images of the Revolution in action, or breaking news headlines, then I'll know it was all a fake...
Here's hoping I click on PALGN in the morning and see an image of a new Revolution Mario image, or a crazy new controller, or something...
Here's hoping...

Well, it's well past the 19th and there wasn't any huge news concerning the Revolution.

Either Aries is really a fake, or it's a plan to dash our dreams and then reveal something really spectacular at a later date where Nintendo has the spotlight all to itself. Though that's just a guess.

My conclusions in response to that list I posted earlier:
  • Nintendo NOW image was probably from the second more developer-oriented press conference that was held (that one really did happen icon_razz.gif). Not quite sure what it is, but eh.
  • Aries is both a fraud and an extremely lucky guesser, though he's still trying to weasel out of it (unconvincingly to anyone with sense).
  • Girl playing the Nintendogs game didn't know (how to set) the date for some reason
  • People who did domain lookup on Nintendo ON site were lying, or possibly fake details were entered
  • The video was just damn impressive, that's all.
  • Major coincidence (or a tribute being paid to that video possibly).
  • Both domains still totally unexplained. Revolution site, however, is not up because we've not seen any decent footage of Revolution software and its name is still not confirmed.
  • Club Revolution turned out to be an astonishingly badly named section for some DDR-style game, I think.
Quite elaborate hoax (and bad luck), that's all. Anyway, put it behind you and don't be bothered about it.
For the UK (maybe AUS too), in September/October/November, there's a large flood of great games (7 or 8 I think) coming to DS and GameCube, so I've definitely got things to look forward to... and around that time we'll be hearing a lot more on Revolution too. Good times ahead if you're patient. icon_smile.gif

7 or 8 isn't quite a flood, but still... I'm looking forward to Twilight Princess and Canvas Curse.
