Pac-Man Chomps His Way Into The Record Books

PALGN News | Pac-Man gains record immortality.
Namco’s classic little critter, Pac-Man has made his way into the Guinness Book of Records for being the most successful coin-operated game in the history of arcade gaming.

While it wasn’t recorded how many coins the game ate up over the years, the judges handed out the award based on the number of arcade machines sold. Approximately 293,822 Pac-Man machines were sold during the seven-year period from 1980 to 1987, making it the most successful arcade game created.

Pac-Man's creator was understandably overwhelmed "I'm extremely honoured," commented Iwatani. "I'm used to being called the father of Pac-Man, and he's like a son to me... I hope that Namco will continue growing strong like Pac-Man for its next 50 years."

Ironically, we can claim that one of the record numbers sold is stationed right in our office, making us part of video-game history. Hurray!

Well I thought it sounded good for the article, but anyway I have one, which was purchased back in 82', and it's in my office(house). So it makes sense regardless.

Back in the 83rd century... Those were the days.... (sorry icon_razz.gif)

I've never played an original pacman arcade machine. I shall hunt one down and play 'til I run out of... Whatever coinage the UK ones take.

I've played a Pac-Man arcade machine once. The joystick was really loose so I wound up sucking a lot. But oh well, it was fun to play an old relic.

Curse that handsome devil! icon_neutral.gif I spent enough money on that game to afford a **** Porche 911 by now!
