Australian Sales Charts, Week Ending 18/12/05

PALGN News | It's chart-tacular! Or something.
After being pushed aside over the past few weeks, Need for Speed: Most Wanted on PS2 has reclaimed the #1 position this week. One of the offending games, Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, is still right on its tail at #2, while the other, Rugby League 2 was knocked down three places to #4. In between those two is Buzz: The Music Quiz, fast becoming a chart veteran. The only game to retain it's place, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stores, is at #5.

Singstar 80s and Eyetoy: Play 3 simply refuse to leave the charts, climbing back to #6 and #7 respectively. Harry Potter and his Goblet of Fire also refuses to drop out of the top 10, landing at #8 this week. The only re-entry this week is Nintendogs: Dachshund climbing back into the top 10 at #9. The charts this week end much like they started - Need for Speed: Most Wanted is at #10, except it's on the Xbox this time.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

Interesting, Nintendogs is back in the top 10, I wonder how much they've sold in total here, especially with a fair few copies not making the top 10 due to their sub $50 price point. And to think that only two other games on the list I would consider buying, although for different platforms (NFS:MW and GTA, both of which I should buy for PC).

I'm suprised at how well Paper Mario is selling. It has been out for ages and it's still in the top ten for GameCube, even surpassing a lot of the more recent titles.

And Dogz 2005 is out? Hmm great marketing there Nintendo...

Somebody has said it before, but I wonder how well Nintendogs would be doing if they were counted together.

And hasn't Paper Mario been about $70 recently? Which would explain its much deserved comeback.

Being in the top 10 for Gamecube games doesn't mean it's selling well. I'm sure you could sell 20 copies of something and make that top 10 list icon_eek.gif

Is it just me or has Gamecube made a triumphant return? It seemed not so long ago, but only recently have shops seemed to add to their once limited stock. However, I think it will be teetering on the edge of extinction in a year or so. The only thing saving it from death is the upcoming Zelda: Twilight Princess, and that will probably be released late next year here in Australia.

Unfortunatley, no. Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube never made the all format top 10 in Australia - but then neither did the PS2 version.

(GCN RE4 did top the USA charts for two months though, but the PS2 port never even made the USA top 20)

Back on topic, The last gamecube game in the top 10 (from memory) was Mario Kart Double Dash. It was in the top 10 until about June 2003, but since then, the GC has been AWOL from the Aussie all formats.

Really? Then, from the sounds of things there won't be a Player's Choice version of Resident Evil 4.

Regardless, the games above Paper Mario are fairly recent titles and will sell thousands. It just goes to show that the game has stacked up extremely well despite being such an old game - compared to the others on the list.

And it has a price-drop? I didn't know that. Probably explains why it's in there though.
