Lara set to get third film?

PALGN News | Eidos and Paramount in talks.
Film trilogies are very much de rigueur at the moment, and now it looks like a certain Lara Croft could be joining the likes of Harry Potter, Neo and Captain Jack Sparrow, after Eidos bod Ian Livingstone declared that a third Tomb Raider film is currently in the planning stages, with Eidos and Paramount presently locked in discussions.

"Nothing has been signed yet and we still need to hire a script writer," said Livingstone in an interview with Eurogamer. "The film's not been green lit, so for me it would be ideal to tie in a movie script with a game script at the same time, to have them both in harmony rather than out of kilter - which has happened in the past."

Whilst the first Tomb Raider film fared very nicely indeed at the box office, the second film was something of a commercial let-down. However, it's believed that Eidos has been encouraged to enter talks over a third film by the positive critical and commercial reception afforded to Tomb Raider: Legend, a title that many critics feel helped repair some of the damage done to the Tomb Raider franchise in the past through mediocre games. Whether or not leading lady Angelina Jolie will be involved is unknown, though apparently the actress has expressed an interest.

More as we get it.

The first two were pretty good. More game to movie FTW.

I think this is the only game to movie film that is any good, most others don't live up to expectations

i thought the first film was ok, but the second was atrocious.

They need to get the chick from the Lara Croft challenge by FHM to play Lara , it would make the film so easy to watch icon_razz.gif - not that Angelina Jolie is bad but I dont think I could stand another Tomb Raider title with her in it. The first two I really disliked.

Completely agree! I love the Buddah Statues in the first....man that was an awesome scene! The second film was 1/2 lovey dovey crap that's one of the main reasons I hated it.

I'm looking foward to this 3rd film and hopefully they have a very solid (tomb raiding) story that goes with it. Something kinda like the first game would be awesome....a lost civilization with prehistoric creatures that have been left undisturbed for centuries!

The third film should be drastically different than the first two. It should focus more on the character of Lara Croft. No more love interests, no more being hired by others to search for relics. Focus on her agility and ingenuity and her skills.

The third film should have her searching for an artefact and getting trapped inside a tomb or underground city or something similar and forcing Lara to use all her skills to survive and escape. This way you could have her getting past traps and things like that.

I'd like to see her forced with a choice - risk her life to escape with the artefact or escape with her life.

This film really needs to be completely different in tone and style.

My dad gave me the DVD for the original film for my 21st birthday, as he liked the film and figured I would too. Instead, I got annoyed at the extreme cookie-cutter nature of each plot development and twist. I've avoided the second movie as a result, and haven't sold my copy of the first movie yet due to it being a 21st birthday present icon_razz.gif

Screw my job, I'm buying a camera and will pay people in pizza to get this movie made.

I still think that the films should have had Liz Hurley playing Lara Croft just for her accent.

I could see that working wobbler. I'd just prefer if Jolie reprised the role again just for continuity sake. If they want to do a fourth film they can get someone else.

After a third film I'd like to see some animated movies of Tomb Raider.

With a great director, better story and setting, a third Tomb Raider film would be great.
