Settlers to get sixth installment

PALGN News | Another bunch of little guys on their way.
German developer, Blue Byte, has announced that they have begun work on a new Settler’s title with the provisional moniker of Settlers VI (creative we know). It’s been 13 years since the first Settler’s title, on Amiga, allowed players to assist the inhabitants of a feudal village conquer the world. Recently Ubisoft, Blue Byte’s distributer, released a remake of Settlers II to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game. The newly announced title, on the other hand, will be a fully fledged sequel and of new gameplay elements and visuals.

The development house and Ubisoft have lofty goals for the game, claiming that with Settlers VI they promise "the best The Settlers game yet" and "a perfect mix of favourite elements alongside new developments.” In addition to this they have indicated that the game will also have extremely stunning visuals, and boast of "the best graphics seen in a strategy game to date." Odile Limpach, Managing Director of Ubisoft Germany states, "We want to appeal to fans of The Settlers series while ensuring the greatest possible accessibility to newcomers."

There is very little information on specific details of the Settlers VI other than that there will be the regular story based campaign mode. “New and enhanced” features will be announced and shown next year, according to Gamespot. The game is due sometime in 2007.
