That verdict was delivered at a launch event for Microsoft's XNA Game Studios Express platform, where Molyneux told attendees, "You're lucky bastards, because the web is a fantastic place to get your ideas out there. If XNA really is going to be the YouTube of game design [A comparison between the two made earlier in the event by Microsoft's Chris Satchell] then that will be a brilliant, brilliant thing," before not adding, "In my day, all we had was a stick to keep us happy. A stick and a rag. But we were happy."
He was on hand to offer some sage words of advice as well for aspiring developers, pointing out that would-be Kojimas, "Must possess a great excitement for what they do. They cannot do this without finding it almost orgasmically exciting. There are times, honestly, that I've been explaining an idea to someone and I've just broken down in tears. The Black & White creator also shed some light on how he worked ("For me, finding 23 music tracks - no less, no more - to listen to while I code is vital. It's got to be 23"), and reflected on the lukewarm critical reaction to last year's The Movies ("We were just stretched far too thin. We should have finished The Movies, played it, re-played it, realised that it was too manic with everything happening at once, and calmed it down").
