New Team Fortress 2 details

A trickle of tantalising new information on Valve's almost decade-long delayed Team Fortress 2 has been revealed in German gaming magazine PC Action. A translation over at the Halflife2.net forums provides a summary of the article, which includes details on TF2's new gameplay modes, maps, weapons, and classes - not to mention somewhat down-to-earth comments made by Valve's Robin Walker on the competition's multiplayer class structures.

Of noteworthy mention however was the possibility of cross-platform multiplayer between the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of TF2. In short, while technically feasible, Valve is still uncertain whether it will make it into the final game - possibly even being up to the likes of Microsoft and Sony to get the wheels in motion for it to happen in the first place.

Sure, Microsoft can always pull out the Games for Windows - LIVE card (a Gold one at that), but that obviously still leaves the PS3 in a sketchy online situation.

NFS Underground supported PS2<->PC online play, IIRC. I suppose Sony's new online system could be very different though.

Wowa weewa! If they managed to ship this with the final version that would be pretty cool. Mainly because there would be a massive amount of people to play against. Awesome.

oh man...why cant the orange box get released already! im dying here. this is easily my most anticipated release of this year (the whole box that is). come on valve.......your my favourite developer, so come on........you know ill preorder asap.

Sadly, I think I doubt PS3's will play PC's or 360's with Live enabled games.

Live is Microsoft's baby, I don't think PS3 is invited to the party. Not to say that dev's couldn't incorporate PS3 vs PC multiplayer into their own servers, but it won't work with the Live matchmaking.

well if UT3 is gonna allow it (ps3 vs pc vs 360 all at same time), don't see why TF2 can't support it
