Zoo Tycoon 2 coming to Nintendo DS

PALGN News | THQ announces sequel, including new Zookeeper mode.
THQ today announced via press release that Zoo Tycoon 2 will arrive for Nintendo DS in early 2008. Like the original Zoo Tycoon, which was also available for the DS, the game allows players to design and manage their own virtual zoos. Also included is the new "Zookeeper" mode, which in a striking resemblance (on paper at least) to existing vitural pet simulators, allows players to view and care for their animals in 3D.

Zoo Tycoon 2 is also available for the PC (without the "Zookeeper" mode), and in our review we found it to be an entertaining enough little outing, if not a tad lacklustre. The original Zoo Tycoon on the DS was not so well received, however.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this story is that it represents yet another foray by Microsoft into the world of DS game production (although published by THQ, the game is Microsoft's intellectual property). While it's possible that Microsoft is simply pursuing profitable opportunities, we can't help but see a strategic advantage in helping to bolster the stock of games for the DS, given its dominance over Sony's PSP.
