More Burnout Paradise information revealed

PALGN News | Game to feature the EasyDrive online Friends List.
EA has confirmed a few extra details about Burnout Paradise, which is set for release in the "Australian Summer" (December 07 to February 08).

The game is set for release on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, but the press release sent out today focused on the PlayStation 3 version of the game. As revealed last week Burnout Paradise will fully support the newly announced Dual Shock 3. Burnout Paradise will also feature an EasyDrive online friends list, which apparently makes it possible to invite your friends into games with three taps of a button. The game will also support the PlayStation Eye and you'll be able to take mugshots of your friends and yourself using the PlayStation Eye.

Burnout Paradise will also features four main single player events, Race, Marked Man, Road Rage and Stunt. All the events can be initiated by pulling up to the stoplights in the game. Paradise City itself will also be fully open from the very beginning of the game, before you race in any event.

“This is the true beginning of next generation racing. On PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, we are delivering a game that brings brilliant graphics into HD at 60 frames per second. Burnout Paradisee does something that no other Burnout game has ever done – it gives the player full control on how to play the game,” said Alex Ward, Creative Director at EA Criterion Studios. “At Criterion, we have a long history of delivering stand-out software on the PlayStation consoles. The entire team is fired up about the opportunity to carry that heritage into the PlayStation 3 generation.”

For me, this title directly competes against NFS: - Prostreet for my hard earned cash. So far Burnout is dominating the race.

Loved Takedown and Revenge.

I'm actually (personally) disappointed that they're going with the "open world" approach. One thing that has always worked for the Burnout series is that it's no-nonsense aggro racing. Adding in the requirement of having to drive to the next event diminishes its appeal to me.

And the list of only 4 single player modes is also something that disappoints me - where's Crash Junction or the manic crash-into-everything-that-moves modes?

*sigh*

The crash modes are the worst part of the games, I hope they don't make a comeback.

I only played Burnout 2 and 3.

It was fun to begin with but ultimately flawed. The fact that there was significant rubber band AI ruined the single player racing. It was possible to boost and your opponents would still be right on your tail every single time. It was also possible to not boost and race poorly and then race really well on the last lap and win.

Nevertheless I will have to have a look at this when it comes out.

Crash mode made Burnout for me.

While I enjoyed the racing, I mainly did it to progress further in the game to get new cars to use in crashes to beat my high scores. I'm hoping the mode won't be too neglected in the new game, and simultaneous multiplayer crash mode in an open city sounds pretty cool.

Most people seem to tout the Crash mode as their main reason for enjoying the various games in the franchise, but, I've always found that I am the opposite. I prefer the racing and while I admit, Crash is a nice addition to the game it just doesn't feel like the main game to me. The added destruction of Takedowns in Burnout 3: Takedown onwards was cool and sorta combined Crash and the racing to make an awesome game, but at the end of the day I still find myself enjoying Burnout 2 the most because it was more racing inclined. To me, nothing beats narrowly missing oncoming cars that you couldn't see just seconds before as you flogged it around a blind corner while racing your opponents. It was Arcade racing bliss and I love it.

That said, I'm very much looking forward to Paradise and from the footage I have seen so far - it looks absolutely beautiful. Something the Burnout games have always been renowned for. icon_smile.gif
