Australian Gaming Bargains - 04/10/07

PALGN Feature | Two for $38, $50, $60, $80 and $88.
There are quite a few attractive specials this week. Firstly, most retailers are offering a PSP bundle where you’ll get the new PSP Slim and Lite console as well as either one or two games. Additionally, Halo 3 can still be found for $80 at various retailers while The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass makes an early appearance at JB Hi-Fi for $59 - just bear in mind it won’t be released until October 11th.

Notice how the big chains are no longer advertising any PS3 consoles - looks like a new one is on the way.

Wii Console @ KMart $359
Core 360 @ Target $349

Not that Id buy a core - but blimey!

The 360 Core pricing is a typical marketing strategy employed by companies to prey on the ill-informed. Get them to bite and yank the hook hard and scale them for every penny by forcing customers to buy propitiatory after-market accessories that were initially advertised as being part of the "360 experience" but didn't come with the core version.

It's similar to Telstra's $29.95 "Broadband at DialUp Prices" plans that only come with 200MB/month of quota (honestly, why bother) and charges of $150 per GB extra after the initial 200MB!...

At those prices, the Wii *is* the better buy as it also comes with a game and you don't need to spend as much on accessories.

Thanks for that. I'll take it out the list.

That 360 core deal looks so good. The 20gig harddrives are around $100 online so you'd still save a bunch especially if you were intending on using VGA and don't mind wired controllers.

Couple that with the 2 for $40 360 games - damn.

Anyways, thanks for making the article. It saved me $50 with the Final Fantasy XII deal at Target. Just a heads up that their stock are all the "SLES-54354" versions. Even though the PS3 backwards compatibility site says you'll experience minor issues, I haven't run into a thing at all.

I did one catalogue once, all I can say is Joseph is an absolute machine.

I would definitely buy skate. at $79, if I hadn't just spent that much on Halo and Fifa. Slowly tying to cut back on being drawn in by these bargains. icon_razz.gif

That's a total bargain. My local BigW doesn't seem to be doing the "2 for $80" deal on the 360 games though. Instead the items listed in 2 for $80 are just scanning at $40 each! So if there's only one of the titles listed that you want, have a look and see if it's at $40 by itself. Forza 2 for example.

It wouldn't surprise me if all Big W stores are doing it like that (eg. 1 for $40). They probably just advertise the "2 for $XX" to get people to buy two titles instead of one.

Well all big w stores actually do that, ie if its 2 for $2X, then one title sells for $X. Its a good practice on their part as a number of people will go "I need to buy 2 games to get this deal" so they buy 2 games so they sell more titles.

Some specials for this week at GAME are:

Flatout Ultimate Carnage (360) - $49.95
Stuntman: Ignition (360) - $69.95 (and Im sure the PS2 version was $39.95 also)

GAME seem to have a sale each week centered around 4 specific titles which are advertised instore. Some decent bargains can be had it seems.
