This Week's Releases - 10/12/07

PALGN Feature | Zap evil away!
With exactly two weeks to go before Christmas, this Thursday sees the release of one of the Wii's big guns – literally. Capcom's anticipated zombie-hunting shooter Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, one of the first titles to support the new Wii Zapper, finally makes its way into stores this week. The Wii Zapper, which is out on the same day as Umbrella Chronicles, turns the Wii Remote and Nunchuck into a gun of sorts, and comes bundled with Link's Crossbow Training. Lastly, Lara Croft also makes an appearance on the Wii this week with Tomb Raider Anniversary.

PlayStation 3 owners get two games this Thursday that Xbox 360 fans have already been enjoying for a number of weeks. The PlayStation 3 Game of the Year Edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion comes with the two expansions The Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. This week's other noteworthy PlayStation 3 title is also bundle of sorts – The Orange Box includes the original Half-Life 2, the two Half-Life 2 expansions Episode 1 and Episode 2 as well as the mind-bending Portal and multiplayer game Team Fortress 2. Best of all, all five titles retail together in The Orange Box for the same price as a standard game.

Finally hitting the shelves this week after another late delay is Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation on the Xbox 360. After witnessing Ace Combat 6 in action at Atari headquarters a few weeks ago, we can say that the game is visually looking absolutely stunning. The military flight simulator is also promising players the same broad choice of fighters seen in previous games in the series. Microsoft's Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom is also released on the Xbox 360 this Thursday, three weeks before it's official American release. Circle of Doom is promising between 40 and 50 hours of single-player gameplay and around another 50 hours to see absolutely everything on offer in the game.

Owners of the PlayStation Portable can get their hands on game adaptation of Beowulf, WipEout Pulse and Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice this week. Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice is promising more of the same driving and shooting madness seen in the previous game is the series.

The main game for the younger generation this week, which will be available on every platform imaginable, is the adaptation of the movie The Golden Compass. Other licensed titles popping up on retail shelves include Barbie as the Island Princess on the Wii, Bratz: 4 Real on PC and Nintendo DS and Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force Evolution on PlayStation 2. Finally, the whole family will be able to get into the groove with Dancing Stage Universe, which is out this Friday on the Xbox 360.
