Big Brain Academy: new screens

DS News | Looking suitably cerebral.
With the title set to hit Europe (and - God forbid - maybe even Australia) during the second quarter of 2006, eight new screens of the PAL version of Big Brain Academy have appeared on a French gaming website this morning.

The title - the best-selling DS game in Japan over the Christmas period (beating out Animal Crossing: Wild World) - presents players with a series of brain-training challenges that incorporate word memorisation, counting, reading, logic, memory, mathematics and even sudoku puzzles. Neatly, the touchscreen on the DS lets users write their responses, just as though they were using a PDA, and there's even an option for players to turn their DS sideways, so that (in Nintendo's words) 'it feels more familiar, like a book'. Hmmm.

Still, it's looking intriguing nonetheless, and we'll be sure to bring you a review nearer the time. Clicketh here for the screenies.

When I first heard about this game, it held zero interest with me. I just thought it was maths on the DS. Hooray.

Now that I actually know what the game offers, it's easily one of my more anticipated titles for the little handheld. Although, I just can't see it having anykind of re'play' value. What the point of doing the same tests over and over again? I think this game would make a brilliant rental.

Sure, it's hard to believe, but after playing it for a bit during the Westfield Garden City meet at the Nintendo DS Connection Tour. There might be room in my game collection for this title.

The replay value comes from when you do the tests more times, you get better at them and it trains your brain, from what I understand anyway. I'm sure it has a few hundred tests that you do... and rather than being a straight up test, isn't it supposed to be more like training anyway? So it's not like "Here's 100 questions, finish them now or die!" it's more like a few little exercises to do every day to expand your mind.

I still don't know if I can be bothered actually. Maybe I'll borrow it or something.
