Classic fun coming to the DS

DS News | 42 games in one cartridge.
There are an infinite number of websites that offer multiplayer fun with a wide variety of simple games. Not to be outdone, Nintendo has announced 42 All-Time Classics, coming soon for the DS. Straight to the point with that title.

"Classics" refers to the timeless board, card and parlour games which are popular on websites and online communities. Speaking of online communities, the game is being given the full Wi-Fi treatment, meaning online touch-screen capabilities. Part of the Touch! Generations of games for the DS, Classics should appeal to all ages and is another admirable display of Nintendo's commitment to provide new DS content for every demographic. Best of all, PictoChat functions are available in-game, and up to eight players can join in via the wireless network using just one cartridge.

The games mentioned so far include pool, chess, draughts, darts, poker (including Texas Hold-Em), backgammon, bridge, billiards and bowling. Look forward to these and over 30 more on September 29, the European release date.

^ Hehe, I remember those things! There was usually about 5 games, the 6th being a different name for number 1 icon_smile.gif

A friend of mine had one of those 500-in-1 games, a few years back, too.

My experience can pretty much be summed up as:

"Hey, wow, a Dragonball Z game, lets give it a shot"
[2 minutes later]
"wow, that crap. What else is there? Hey, look, on page 2, another Dragonball Z game, I wonder what this one is"
[20 seconds later]
"what the hell, this is the same game? But look, this weird titled game looks alright"
[same DBZ game loads up]
[2 seconds later, cartridge is returned to my friend]

Only forty-two games on one cartridge? Nintendo could put a few more on considering how much space those SD cards can hold. Still, the mention of Wi-Fi support is a nice addition.

With touch screen that would be sweet.

Bowling and Texas Hold 'em already have me wanting this.

Hope it's done well. This could definitely deliver.

Is the Wi-Fi feature for all 42 games?

I assume so, yes. I think that a simple title which appeals to a broad audience would do well to have full online functionality - again an effort on Nintendo's part to bring gaming, and advanced online play, to everyone.
