Zelda series goes online?

DS News | Phantom Hourglass to feature online play apparently.
In an interview with GameInformer, Zelda director Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS will feature online play via Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection service.

Apparently, it will follow similar attributes to the game's multiplayer mode where players will fight against each other, one-on-one. Aonuma also discussed a little detail about the development behind Phantom Hourglass.

"Because this game is on a handheld, the approach has been a little different than with the Wii or the GameCube," Aonuma stated when asked about the length of the game. "In this Zelda, there are several islands, and each kind of has its own story. It’s pretty full because of this, and we’ll explain more how this works closer to release. There are some dungeons that you’ll have to play more than once. It’s a very full, fleshed-out game."

Aonuma also revealed that development is nearing final stages, and even boasted that they're "fine-tuning and polishing" the game before its highly anticipated release. To read the full interview, click here.

*is deafend by fanboy screams*

I'm liking this Zelda more and more. It's possible that this and Twilight Princess will be the first two Zelda titles I ever pick up.

I'm not overly fazed about this multiplayer aspect because it feels like a decent extension from the game in that one is Link and the other is the enemy, it seems to fit. Unlike Four Swords and it's lame attempt at forcing people to spend more money.

I did spend more money and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Getting enough Zelda minded friends, a spare television and my mate's Gameboy Playing Gamecube together was thr real trick.

I'd enjoy a 4 swords online game, though probably only with people I know.

Online Zelda! icon_smile.gif Very cool. As if I needed another reason to get this game. The single player is sounding rather good, I hope they pack in as much as they can, Zelda games are somewhat characterised by their length. It sounds like they're doing as good job, 7 islands seems decent.

7 islands? Oh they better be big.

So basically its online Pacman?

4 Swords was a very rewarding experience with four players. So this is good news.
