Fresh batch of Phantom Hourglass screens

DS News | The clock is ticking.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is probably the most anticipated game on the Nintendo DS for 2007. We're always happy when we get to see some extra media goodies, so to kick off the weekend we have eleven new screens in the Media Panel to drool over.

Phantom Hourglass adopts the cel-shaded look of the much-discussed Wind Waker for the GameCube, and this style is probably a decent design choice for the Nintendo DS hardware. For all intents and purposes, the gameplay will be top-down combat and exploration, much like earlier Zelda titles. However, we can see in these screens the level of quality that has been pumped into the characters and environments, and it's shaping up to be a handheld Zelda with some real cajones. Look out for more Phantom Hourglass coverage in the coming months.

Despite looking like Wind Waker (and being a sequal to a game that was meant to be "the end of the timeline"), this game is still looking very interesting to me.

Looks hot, where do I swipe my credit card?

The maps look boring and low quality imo. Hopefully it will look better in motion, because, while awesome for a DS game, I want this looking as much like WW as possible.

Thanks to the Wii I have recently been able to play Windwaker for the first time and I must say its one of the best Zelda games I've played to date, if not the best.

Phantom Hourglass is shaping up to be something special. I cant wait!

I can't wait for this! Like Qbert said, the world looks a bit generic and samey. Hopefully there is a big town.

Those maps look horrible. Really not looking forward to this game, especially if the sole input method is using the stylus, not matter how well it works (so far it looks frustrating - stand still while throwing the boomerang, tap on screen buttons to move blocks, switch between move cannon and fire (is that right?) icon_shifty.gif ). The game will probably be easy to compensate, more so than Minish Cap (whose maps really ruined any sense of exploration - these maps look even worse).

Being such a reverred and successful franchise, I highly doubt Phantom Hourglass will be the last Zelda game ever made, if that's what you mean.

is this supposed to be the sequel to wind waker?
i think this style of graphics is great for the DS
im looking forward to this game alot

Um, hourglasses don't tick, unless of course you tap them, but that wouldn't really be a good idea because then you wouldn't be able to do anything because you'd be rythymically tapping on the hourglass in an effort to make it sound like a clock.

I'm pretty anxious for this game so long as it doesn't have any horrib treasure hunting involved, Nintendo should be firebombed for ever putting in such a ludicrously tedious attempt at prolonging game time. It really is the icing on the cake of half-baked ideas for gaming longevity.

Yes Tom, its the direct sequel to Windwaker as far as continuity and characters go.

The maps could look a little better, but overall it's looking pretty nice. Can't wait to get my hands on this one! icon_biggrin.gif

Does it matter that I've never played WW?

It'd definately help, but theyre only games so I wouldnt say its crucial. Either way, you definately ought to start on Windwaker. Its truly excellent.

End of the timeline wha? WW is clearly the next 'legend' after Ocarina. And yet LTTP describes the events of Ocarina as happening long ago.

Wind Waker is not, and never was supposed to be, 'the end of the timeline'.

They will, no doubt. There is already a new Zelda in the works for the Wii.

@David: I dont think a timeline exists anymore, but most Zelda games call the OoT events as long ago. If you are implying that aLttP takes place after WW, I would love some of whatever your smokin icon_wink.gif and just remember that Hyrule still existed in aLttP, watch the ending of WW again and look at the storyline to Phantom Hourglass.
