Firstly, every single little paper critter that was on the Xbox 360 version can also be found on the DS version. There will some new ones as well, hopefully to cater for those who have already played the original. This should also alleviate any concerns regarding the thought that the DS game would be an inferior version.
Aspects of the game such as the Journal and Encyclopedia have been upgraded and there will be an expanded selection of tools and available actions for the tools. There will also be two new gameplay modes. Sandbox seems like an open free-for-all mode and Episodes will apparently be tied closely to the TV series. There was also a suggestion that there will be more new modes, not just the two mentioned.
As you'd expect, taking control of the game will involve the DS stylus and touch screen. Basically, everything you do now in the game, will be done through direct touch. Furthermore, you'll be able to send your Piñatas over to your friend's DS over the Wifi service, so you'll be able to show off what you've caught what silly things you've done to it.
Viva Piñata is not being siphoned off to another developer and is being developed completely in-house, though there is still no official word on the publisher. Click on the media panel below for the first official screenshot.
