NHL 2K9 coming to Wii

Wii News | Waggling hockey fun.
Ice hockey fans will be elated to learn that Take Two has announced NHL 2K9 will become the first NHL game to grace the Nintendo Wii later this year.

The game will also see release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. Come on, admit it -- you're shocked.

As you would expect with a Wii sports game, the Wiimote will allow for some rather nifty new moves, with Wii Remote motions controlling a player's stick, similar to the way the right analogue stick was used in NHL 2K8, but much more refined. At least, we would imagine that's the case.

Visual Concepts are once again the driving force behind the project. Last month it was announced that Columbus Blue Jackets winger and 2002 first overall draft pick Rick Nash will be the cover athlete. That's him up in the corner of this icon, in case you're wondering.

NHL 2K9 is due out on all platforms in September.

Why do I sense this failing hard... if it's pre-rendered movements we've got another gimmick to add to the pyre, if it's 1:1 mapping the camera angle will surely be irritating in its proximity to/movement towards the active player.

I think I'll stick to the PS3 version for now, unless previews can prove me wrong...

Wow! This is great news to myself and the 28 other NHL fans around Australia icon_wink.gif

Im glad it's 2K's take on the sport over EA. They have an eye for quality.
