Perhaps one of the most anticipated downloadable titles of the year, Mega Man 9 has been designed to look, sound and play just like the original NES Mega Man games. In the game Mega Man’s creator Dr. Light is wrongly accused of causing robot rampages around the world. The evil Dr. Wily claims he has no connection to the incidents, and encourages people to donate money to him so he can build his own robot army to combat Dr. Light. Being the hero that he is, Mega Man must now set out and prove his creator’s innocence. Just like the originals, your main objective is to defeat different robot bosses and obtain their main weapons to increase Mega Man’s overall arsenal. The game also features special challenges to complete, which are similar to the Xbox 360’s achievement points system. These range from completing the game under a specific time limit, to playing through the game multiple times. It’s the sort of thing that will keep fans entertained for hours on end. Mega Man 9 will set you back 1,000 points.
Helix is a rhythm action game and was developed by Ghost Fire Games. The game can be played by using either one or two Wii remotes, and players are required to repeat gestures that are made by an on-screen robot. You’ll begin each session with a health meter, and each time you mess up a gesture it will slowly deplete. In total there are twenty six music tracks, but most of them will need to be unlocked. The music has been described as having a techno and European club vibe, so if that’s not your scene you’re better off avoiding Helix. For those that are interested in downloading the game, heed this warning: on higher difficulty settings the gestures can get very intense, and after a while you’ll begin to feel the burn - the game’s definitely not for lazy coach potatoes. Helix will set you back 1,000 points.
Finally, Strong Bad Episode 2: Strong Badia the Free is the second entry in the Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People series. In Episode 2, The King of Town has installed an e-mail tax, which leads to Strong Bad being placed under house arrest. Even with an explosive collar around his neck, Strong Bad uses the opportunity to unite the citizens against The King of Town. It’s safe to assume that if you enjoyed Homestar Ruiner, Strong Badia the Free will be right up your alley. Likes its predecessor, the game costs 1,000 points.
