Nintendo Store Update - 7/5/10

Wii News | Finally, the first Final Fantasy finds us!
This week the Wii Shop Channel has been updated with only one release, as Final Fantasy makes its way to the Virtual Console. Though it has seen many remakes and revisions in the past, this is the first time that the landmark RPG has been released to Australian shores in its untarnished NES form.

On the DSiWare front there are three varied releases in the form of interactive book game Flips: Silent But Deadly, portable music generator Rytmik and the space-based shoot 'em up Metal Torrent.

Title: Final Fantasy
System: NES(Virtual Console)
Price: 600 Wii Points

The originator of a series now over twenty years old, Final Fantasy is a turn-based RPG that sees you play as a group of young Light Warriors on a quest to defeat the forces of evil that plague their world. Across the six character classes you can choose, there are a variety of offensive moves at your disposal such as weapon-based attacks, magic spells and even your bare fists. As part of the Hanabi Festival, Final Fantasy carries a slightly higher cost than the usual NES game, setting you back 600 Wii Points.

Title: Flips: Silent But Deadly
System: DSiWare
Price: 500 DSi Points

Flips: Silent But Deadly is an interactive book game that follows the misadventures of schoolboys James, Alexander and Lenny. When they see their science teacher attempt to open his briefcase using only his teeth, the boys know that something very unusual is happening at their school. An appealing title for the younger gamer, it is worth checking your collection for Flips: Too Ghoul For School, which already contains this DSiWare title.

Title: Rytmik
System: DSiWare
Price: 800 DSi Points

The music creator Rytmik, created by Czech developers Cinemax, allows you to use over 170 sounds samples of various instruments to mix your own music tracks and build up your own unique collection of stylish beats. At 800 DSi Points, Rytmik is a premium title, but for the musically inclined amongst you it may be very much worth it.

Title: Metal Torrent
System: DSiWare
Price: 500 DSi Points

A top-down vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up, Metal Torrent allows you to choose from two types of spacecraft to dodge and mow down wave after wave of enemy combatants in order to get the highest score possible. Once the special bar is filled up, players can unleash a bomb attack that devastates most of the enemies onscreen. Beyond the basic game mode, Metal Torrent has a variety of other features which increase its appeal, including online leader boards and video playback of high scoring efforts.
