E3 2006: Metroid Prime 3 details emerge

Wii News | Early adopters will like this.
The word has been spreading that the next Metroid Prime title for Wii, now subtitled Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, will indeed be a launch title for the system. This is coming directly from the mouth of the developers. Developed from the ground up, it will join The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess to offer a very enticing first-party pair.

Like the previous titles, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption will not be played online but developers have not ruled out downloadable content or utilisation of the 24-hour Connection service. The game will no longer feature the light and dark world mechanic from Metroid Prime 2 but revert to the large open areas of exploration. The game will expand, with Samus being able to hop into her ship and travel to other planets. Despite not being able to directly control the ship when flying, Retro have eluded to the possibility of controlling the ship while Samus is on the ground.

This would be done via one of Samus' visors, though only the X-ray visor has been confirmed for an appearance in the game so far. Despite a few murmurs of a lacklustre showing so far, Retro are hard at work making the game look as good as possible, with a target 60 fps frame rate. Sounds good to us so far.

What? No online multiplayer mode? This downloadable content better be good.

^ Doesn't matter. Metroid is like masturbation, to be enjoyed alone. Well, you know, unless you have two people in the same room both playing Metroid separately on separate TV's - I call it Mutual Metroid.

I guess it's fair enough to expect every game from this new 'generation' to have some sort of online mode (ala 360). I guess there wasn't a great response from the multiplayer option on MP2.

I wonder why... [/sarcasm]

The game's looking pretty good. I didn't think it needed an online mode, that's what Hunters is for.

No online mode is fine with me. The focus for this game (as for most other Metroids in the past) is on the single-player experience. icon_smile.gif
Also, the fact that it's going to be a launch title is great news. icon_biggrin.gif

This game is easily my most anticipated title at the moment. I mean c'mon, as if it wouldn't be. It's Metroid! icon_biggrin.gif
