Animal Crossing heads for Wii

Wii News | Set to make use of WiiConnect24.
With its motion-sensing controller and WiiConnect24 service, the Wii always seemed like the perfect platform for an Animal Crossing title. And Nintendo's Katsuya Eguchi evidently feels the same way, as he's just confirmed to IGN that a Wii Animal Crossing game is indeed underway, though it sounds like the project is currently at the planning stage, with Eguchi and his team still deciding how they'll utilise the Wii controller.

"We're still just hammering out the concepts," admitted Eguchi. "It's not playable yet... right now we're currently considering our options in terms of what we can do with the various features of the controller and through WiiConnect24. You could have someone visit your town even when you weren't actively playing and maybe leave you a letter or a gift. Also, through Wi-Fi Connection, players could play simultaneously."

Sounds promising, as do Eguchi's ideas regarding the controller: "It could become potentially your axe, your shovel and your fishing rod. You can imagine what can happen there." Frankly Katsuya, we'd also like the ability to skip through dialogue as well this time - being forced to read the same thing from Tom Nook every time we wanted to sell a pear drove us a bit barmy, as much as we loved Animal Crossing: Wild World.

There's not even a hint of a release date or any further details beyond what we have, but as soon as we hear something, you'll read it here first.

all this 'connecting 24 hours a day' business has me worried. is it going to hog my bandwidth? how many mb will it download a day? It's all fine and dandy for the americans who have much better internet plans than us. but here in aus, it's hard to come by a decent, unlimited, broadband plan. i mean, i'm speed capped after 10 gig and i'm flat out trying to stay under that each month. will all this crap stuff me up?

^ I wouldn't worry Mitch, Nintendo aren't the company to have catches in their services; I'm sure there won't be any bandwidth problems. icon_smile.gif

As long as the game itself is better than the Cube version, this will be a definate buy, especially with WiiConnect24. If it's anything like the DS version, however... icon_neutral.gif
