Leipzig GC: Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii

Wii News | Charge it and kick.
As the Leipzig Games Convention is currently underway, PALGN is on hand to offer tiny tidbits of news for eager readers. Stay tuned to hear all the info as it comes, and we'll be sure to bring full details of the announcements ASAP.

The first such news is that a sequel to the smashingly good Super Mario Strikers for the GameCube is on the way to the Wii. Mario Strikers Charged seems to be the title, and the Leipzig show provided a good amount of hype for the title. Football fans rejoice - even though most of us probably saw it coming.

Football fans rejoice? Rejoice about what?

Getting to see their beautiful game torn to shreds again?

New Strikers and Batallion Wars sound okay, maybe I'll pick them up after the Wii launches on... wait, when? At least I know it it'll cost.... something.

I don't know what Nintendo's promise that were supposed to prove was, but unless it was to tell us nothing they failed.

And now we can hear more release date and price speculation. Whoop-de-f***ing-doo. Well done, Ninty.

Nothing says disappointing like Mario Strikers and Batallion Wars rehashes. And here I was expecting something original, how silly of me.

Well, you could say that, but then one could argue there are an infinite number of "serious" football games for the purists out there. Is adding something else to that formula too difficult to bear?

Mario Strikers is online, which is good news at the very least.

EDIT: Online play (including Co-Op) for Battalion Wars also sounds good.

Yes battalion wars sounds promising. However i think that the Strikers game will be a gamble.

I hated Batallion Wars because of the controls. The Wii version will definately be better but it would be good if I didn't have to buy the game again. How about some sort of patch for the GCN version to use Wii controls (i know that's asking a lot but it's doable)?

Just think of the Wii version as a patch, hell the graphics look the same.

Yea I know but it would be good if you could download this update instead of having to buy the disc and packaging again.

You do realise the Wii is something like twice as powerful as the GameCube? It isn't just the same console with a different controller.

Hell, RE4 has amazing graphics to this day. Put that to work in a console twice as powerful and you have more potential than just downloading some updates.

There's no point in it being twice as powerful as the Gamecube if Nintendo are going to bring in a whole bunch of rehashed games that look like they could run on a PS2.

While I admit there's a lot of potential, I have yet to see one game that eclipses the graphical quality of Resident Evil 4 or even Rogue Leader - a first generation GCN game that looks better than 90% of games released last generation.
