Ninty unveils New Zealand Wii launch plans

Wii News | KiWii date and price revealed.
Bar an announcement for the Pitcairn Islands, this is probably the last article we'll be posting on Nintendo's various launch announcements regarding the Wii in PAL regions. And as we've already had separate articles for the Wii launches in Australia, Europe, Japan and North America (not to mention our roundtable discussion), we say good riddance to 'em.

So, for one last time, and for the handful of you in New Zealand who actually read us, here's the scoop: the Wii will be launching in NZ on December 7th, the same day that the console is set to appear in Australia. The difference? It's going to cost NZ$499, which (by current conversions, etc, etc.) represents a AU$40 increase on the Oz price. Cheek! Mind you, it still beats the UK price for value - NZ$499 is £176, four pounds less than what Muggins here will be forking out for his Wii. In a word: Gah.

New Zealanders will be getting the same deal as their nearby neighbours, with the console itself, a Wii controller, a nunchuck and Wii Sports making up the launch package.

Glad to see our neighbors across the pond aren't get screwed over to much, at least they are getting it this year as well. Nintendo is really pulling off a much genuine world wide launch by the looks of it, bravo!

Thanks for thinking of us NZers. Pity about Nintendo Australia scamming us of an extra AU$40 (Mind you we're used to that - here the DS Lite RRP is NZ$269.95 which when converted means Nintdeo Aussie is pocketing a bonus AU$35 from us kiwis).

Hahahahaha, I think most kiwis might want to import, though the shipping might kill it! Hahahaha

I'm starting to think that PAL regions are getting skrewed with Wii prices. Poor NZ.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Xbox Core pack in NZ is $550. Only $50 more. Not that it matters. Good luck finding a store where the sales staff even know what a GameCube is.

Funny story. I was there last year, and Toyworld had a copy of Crazy Taxi for the GameCube (going on 7 years now)... for $120!!!

I'm interested to know why we're getting the shaft in regards to the Wii in Australia, when the DS is a pretty reasonable price - about equal to the US price.

Is it because the taxes and/or shipping are higher for consoles than portables? Or are we just getting gouged?
