Wii launch window and VC games for Europe revealed

Wii News | Commendably close to the US list, actually.
Nintendo has revealed that Europe will see 27 Wii games released by the end of 2006, five less than the number of titles due in North America by the end of the year. Meanwhile, European consumers will also be offered a selection of 31 retro titles on the Wii's Virtual Console service by Christmas, in comparison to the 29 that will be made available to the folks over the pond. There's barely any difference then, though the news that Europe's list of 2006 titles matches that of the US is a promising sign, particularly considering how shoddily Nintendo has treated PAL regions in the past.

Here's the full list for your reading pleasure, and stand by for the Aussie list, which we should be getting any day now:

And that's your lot, though we've got all our fingers and toes crossed that a Virtual Console version of Pilotwings 64 is in the works. We'll get back to you with the Aussie list as soon as we have it, though frankly there's every chance it could again look very similar.

Man only one game out of that whole list I want....it's not looking very good to me....i'm wondering if it's even worth getting one (especially seeing as i'll have enough games to play around that time anyways). I hope Red Steel turns out good so I have to buy that aswell. It also sux they dropped Metal Slug Anthology for the launch.

Solomon's Key! I actually voted for that one in the PALGN top 100! I have fond memories of that on the C64. I wonder if its as good as I remember it!

Toejam and Earl: boom shaka clap and Gunstar Heros = Lush! Looks like some gooD ol' fashioned 2player VCing for me! Dont forget the secret Island in the bottom left of L1 of TJ and E, you'll need rocket skates or an inner tube!

Espescially impressive:

# Bonk's Adventure (Turbografx)
# Super Star Soldier (Turbografx)
# Victory Run (Turbografx)
# Bomberman '93 (Turbografx)
# Dungeon Explorer (Turbografx)

The PC Engine/Turbografx was not released in PAL territories, yet Europe is getting the games. So there we have it - VC games are not limited to where they were originally released, or to PAL versions (since there is no such thing as a PAL version of a turbografx game).

I hope that turbografx/PCengine version of the monsters trap comes out also! That was the best!

Gunstar heores is also a given.

Never found that secret island in TJ&E though! icon_eek.gif
Maybe i did, was sooooo long ago.

Also i remember that Solomos key on C64, i used to play it heaps. It was a kind of platform/puzzler right?

Also a version of Wardner(megadrive/arcade) would be the bees knees.
*fingers crossed*

I hope we get to see NBA Hang Time from the 64 on VC. Spent hours (and hunderds of $) on this at the arcades when I was as uni... One of my friends still has his 64 just for that game...

Haha cam, I've got Hangtime. That game was awesome. Loved it so much.

Also, that's a pretty solid list for launch. I mean, it's actually better than the US list, seeing as we get DONKEY FREAKING KONG COUNTRY, which is one of my all time favourite games.

Sadly, I don't think that's the case:
TurboGrafx-16
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PC Engine is a video game console first released in Japan by NEC on October 30, 1987. The system was released in late August, 1989 as TurboGrafx-16 for the North American market. A PAL version of the system also saw a very limited release in the UK and continental Europe in 1990 as "Turbografx"

Wikipedia is wrong.

There were a few machines distributed to Mainland Europe, but not the UK.

However, these machines were not PAL, they were NTSC machines with a colour converter module. No PAL machine was ever produced.

I suppose I should edit Wikipedia, actually.

This is why you should never use Wikipedia as a source for anything. Uncyclopedia is about as accurate as that thing.

That's awesome then. Still, Nintendo Australia sucks, so what are the chances local Wiis will ever be able to play TurboGrafx games?
