Wii to support custom soundtracks

Wii News | One final surprise.
IGN has confirmed that Excite Truck includes custom soundtrack support, which means that with some games it will be possible to play MP3 music directly from your SD card. However, there will be a limit of 100 songs allowed on your SD card at one time.

You're also able to use the Wii remote to select the exact song that you want to play. There is currently no confirmation of whether any other titles support the custom soundtrack feature, but we're hoping this is something that becomes standard - at least in Nintendo's first party titles.

Oh, fantastic! Hopefully Excitetruck with custom soundtrack can at least mimick the quality of Burnout 2 with custom soundtrack. I loved playing some head-to-head races with loud, fast music pumping over the top for added adrenaline icon_smile.gif

Damn good move on their part, I think.

YAY! Not exacly an original idea but something I will use on my Wii. Little disapointed on the 100 song limit but since when would I go over 100 songs while playin a game? Well maybe for Zelda!

Bit disappointed at the low number, but I guess if I compile my favourite tracks from all my albums... I still wouldn't come close to it fitting. Oh well, at least it's a step in the right direction.

I hope the sonic game has custom soundtracks then i will be able to play the original Green hill zone music.

Nintendo need to support hard drive, atleast 3rd party external ones.

Ahh nice, meh 100 songs is ok, not like you are able to get though all of them in one sittings anyways.

Only allowing this through SD cards is a bit of a bummer. As said above by others, it'd be the sort of thing you'd want to have ripped to the console, or like the 360's support where you can just plug an iPod in and play songs off that via USB.

The 100 song limit is a bit baffling.... why can't they allow as many that'll fit on the SD card?

Still... decent move by Ninty.

Maybe the 100 limit is set by the game?

Because no one seems to care if anyone copies PCs, only if they copy other consoles.

Stupid? $5 says that you'd be complaining if the feature never was there.

Ill take that bet, I never ever use the feature on anything,

$5 please.

Ill make a $5 bet with you and say that your a Nintendo fan.

Oh and another $5 that you havent a grasp on sarcasm yet?

I was stating that not that i think its stupid, more so showing that people
are very one eyed, you have provem my point, I thank you.

He was making a point at people's one sidedness when it comes to "copying", the fact he said "stupid nintendo" is irrelevant.

Edit: yeah, I'm slow.

I heard the 100 song limit was specific to Excite Truck, and not how many you have on the SD card.

Good that it has the capability though.

Who on earth stores music on SD cards?

Nevertheless, it'd be nice to see this implemented in more games, and perhaps a firmware upgrade for External USB drive support.

what's an SD like it says in the article "IGN has confirmed that Excite Truck includes custom soundtrack support, which means that with some games it will be possible to play MP3 music directly from your SD card."

Huh?

If you're simply asking what SD(Secure Digital) is, it's a solid state memory that retains it's content when there's no power flowing through it, similar to flash memory. It's incredibly small, and a fair few models have good read / write speeds, as well coming in sizes from 16MB (probably not around any more, and this was the lowest size I can remember), up to over 4GB now.
