Ubisoft exec on Prince of Persia for Wii

Wii News | Spills first details.
It's been almost four months since we first caught wind of Ubisoft's plans to bring a Prince of Persia game to the Wii, but now Ubi executive Yannis Mallat has broken the company's silence and discussed the game in a little more detail.

According to Mallat, Prince of Persia on the Wii will make extensive use of the Wii's motion-sensing controller and Nunchuk, with the Wiimote allowing the Prince to pull off jumps (amongst other moves), and the Nunchuk throwing out the Prince's chain. Mallat described the controls as "fun and intuitive," and, given the nimble, acrobatic nature of the Prince's movement in previous PoP games, it does indeed sound promising.

Little more was revealed by Mallat, though this one is still high on our lists - after all, slightly dodgy second game aside, it's hard not to love Ubisoft's ace Prince of Persia trilogy. More as it reaches our eager ears.

Less taxing puzzles than those in Sands of Time, bad choice of music throughout the game, and a need to make the Prince really "dark." Cringe. Still, not a *bad* game, per se. Just a bit irritating in the way it does certain things.

Just hoping the new Wii game isn't all angsty. Then again, I'm also hoping it actually is a "new" game.

I thought the combat was better than that of T2T (despite the inclusion of the stealth mechanic). Overall though SoT>WW>T2T - I haven't played SoT for quite a while so I'm not sure whether it's a fine wine. Do we have an official release date for the trilogy?

I haven't finished The Two Thrones yet so don't reveal any spoilers to me with this question I have:

Does it round off the story? As in, do you get the feeling that there won't be any more games with the Prince in this form?

You mean the box set on PS2? It's out now.

^ yeah, $50 at gametraders too.

the only one i don't have is T2T, but for $50 it's probably cheaper to buy the complete set.

It is, or at least, it is cheaper to get the set at JB than just T2T. I found it funny when I noticed that the other day.

I just finished Warrior Within myself. I kinda liked the story once I actually understood it which doesn't happen till about 3/4 through. The characters are pretty grey too. I'm not sure who to cheer for and even the two endings; its kinda hard to decide which is the best one. I felt the game was quite poorly structured though, I was constantly lost and unsure what to do and there is no way I could have got all the life upgrades without a gameguide. Especially seeing as half of them cannot be collected after a certain point.

Quite a few glitches also and I'm not ussually to good at finding glitches. Still I've only Played Warrior Within on my Cube. Can't wait to get the other two.

Sounds like more of the same but with new controls! Prince of Persia got old after the 1st one (I have them all). Been a while since i've been excited about any of Ubi's games.

What i'd really like is maybe a 2.5d version of the original prince of persia with lush artwork.

Not interested in Assasin's Creed ugh?

Crysis.

on the whole though, i'm not really aware on who is actually involved with what. there might be a few Ubisoft games out there that i'm really anticipating, but i just didn't know they were ubisoft titles.

hehe....I was actually gonna list those 2 games as the only 2 of theirs i'm looking foward to....but honestly I see Crysis just being another shooter with great tech that might only appear on Pcs for a long time (not sure if it's even coming to any of the consoles). Also I see Assasin's Creed just being some 3rd party port...so i'm not too interested in that (I could be wrong so i'll remain optimistic). I want exclusives....and yes I know they're gonna be harder to come by....but I want the games that don't appear on other consoles....Pc is fine but I want console exclusivity! Stuff like Dead Rising, Gears of War, Prey....and these games weren't made by 1st party companies.

Hmmm thought the guys behind Crysis were doing a console game called Haze.

Anyway I did play the first PoP on the GC of all things. The sound was a really sore point (not very good when compared to PS2 and Xbox versions).

Hope they fix it for Wii fans.

Problem I had with the PoP (besides poorly implemented sound) was the constant spawning it drove me nuts. Hence I didn't touch the series after that.

It really helped the franchise though, this new direction that they went in, because the Prince of Persia 3D game, while tolerable, was too rigid and the Ub-Soft games gave you more fluid movement which really helped things. I mean, the original game is more fluid than that 3D version.

I didn't like Sands of Time, it was far too short and the only difficulty arose from the camera. The 2d games are still infinitely superior to the 3d iterations.
