More Sonic and the Secret Rings details

Wii News | 40 multiplayer games included.
The latest issue of British game magazine GamesMaster has a feature on Sonic and the Secret Rings, revealing a little bit of extra information about the game.

The title will feature ten levels that include Sand Oasis, Dinosaur Jungle, Evil foundry, Levitated Ruin and Pirate. Sonic's skills and abilities can be customised, and in total there will be 100 skills that the hedgehog can learn.

The best news of all has to be the fact that the game will feature 40 multiplayer games, which will all take advantage of the Wii remote. There could be some really creative ideas with Sonic mini games, so we hope these don't just feel tacked on.

Exactly what I (and probably the majority of Wii-owners) was thinking. Ugh.

I really wish Sega would just focus on getting the main portion of the game right before adding in all these different modes, characters and mini-games. The more they add, the worse it seems to get.

How long are we going to have to put up with tacked on minigames in every Wii game? It was a similar story when the DS, but that only lasted a few months, didn't it? Hopefully its not much different in this case and the 'proper' Wii games come fairly soon.

The main game looks pretty good, hope they're just throwing in extra and not wasting development time of the main game.

I like Super Monkey Ball, the thing with mini-games is if you don't like them, don't play them

Since the Sonic Adventures we have had a lack of good Sonic games, I think this could be his last chance at being taken seriously

I didn't mind Sonic Heroes. Although I did get it for $9.

I'd actually like to see the Wii primarily aimed at that stuff, it is what it does best so far utilizing the controls to its fullest and also carving its own niche market.

The whole skills thing sounds alright, and it might add some depth to the title. This is definately a wait-and-see game though. If it gets some 8s then I'll probably pick it up.

I disagree, I was no fan of Sonic Heroes but Shadow was way worse.

Cube owners, and now even Wii owners should take a look at Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, although I think the Dreamcast versions were superior, they are still worth checking out

I've only played Sonic adventure on the Dreamcast. Is the PS2 version the same or is it part 2?
I loved SA on DC and everything else since in the sonic sense has been utter garbage.

I know that you can get SA1 and 2 on GCN, but that's about it. I remember playing SA on my DC, it rocked. icon_smile.gif

The GameCube version of Sonic Adventure 2 was better than the Dreamcast version. It was essentially the same, but with Chao Karate added (shallow, but hilarious) and a more stable frame rate. The frame rate for 2 player versus was doubled from 30 to 60, and the extra characters (Metal Sonic, etc), had new and improved animations and sound effects and were accessible from the get-go.

Sonic Adventure DX is a completely different story. In attempting to bump the frame rate up to 60, they failed miserably, resulting in a constant jumping between 30 and 60, as opposed to the mostly rock-solid 30fps on the Dreamcast. There were extra missions, but they were pretty pointless, and you can play the unlockable games (i.e. the crappy Game Gear versions) on other Sonic collections.

I also noticed that the collision detection problems seem WORSE in DX, especially towards the end of the Sky Deck level. Getting the time limit emblem on that level was excruciating.

You can also hook the Dreamcast up with a VGA cable which gives you progressive scan and a far clearer image than component cables on the GameCube.

There is no Sonic Adventure on PS2, it was re-released on the gamecube as Sonic Adventure DX.

Sonic Adventure 2 was released on the dreamcast and re-released on the gamecube as Sonic Adventure 2 Battle which was the sequal, it was pretty good too, Sonic with the rest of Sega has gone on a downward spiral since the demise of the Dreamcast

You can have the best product in the world, but if no-one knows your there, they ain't going to buy it

As soon as I heard Sonic and mini games in the same sentence Monkey Ball came into my head. Hopefully these games won't fell as cheap and as tacked on as the Monkey Ball ones. I would much rather see a solid player vs. player multiplayer or maybe even co-op then this masses or mini games.

100 skills?

I bet half of them include:

Run
Run x2
Run x3
Run x4
Bullet-time
Double-Jump
Triple Jump
Quadriple Jump

etc etc.
