Punch-Out coming to the Wii?

Wii Rumour | Nintendo reviving a classic franchise?
Nintendo website N-Philes has discovered that the name Punch-Out!! was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April the 1st, 2005. The trademark became active on January 11th, 2007.

We're unsure whether the name was registered to indicate its inclusion on the Virtual Console or a long awaited revival on the Wii. However, following the success of Wii Sports - proving that boxing games work quite well on the Wii - we wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo revived their old franchise.

Loved punch out and it better have a lot more input than the Wii sports boxing.

I just hope the Wii comes to a point where it actually uses the wii-mote/nunchuck in the same relativity to how you are holding it in front of the screen, or is that not possible?

In Wii sports you kind of get that action anyway. I think if you tilt the nunchuck forwards your fist goes down, and backwards to go up and level for it to match the controller.

It would be great to see Punch Out being released for the Wii. Obviously it would be taking some ideas from Wii Boxing and could enhance the experience.

I never played the orignal Punch Out and would like to see it on VC. If this rumour was true then I would love to see a packin deal of the orignal game for VC.

Which style should it be, realistic or cartoonish like the first two?

Cartoonish, all the way. If you want a realistic looking boxing game then get one of the many version of Fight Night Round 3. I don't think that the Punch Out brand would lend itself to a 'realistic' style - it was always about the over-the-top characters and moves.

Can't wait for this one.
I'll pretend to get carried away with the controller and really snot my brother one. Oh sorry Todd - really sorry about that. Need a kleenex? icon_biggrin.gif

Cartonish as for the reasons already mentioned by Karai Pantsu and Nintendo would probably do a better job with cell shading as well. Thier art direction in Zelda:WW was excellent. Also a realistic boxing game could be compared to Fight Night which would make the Wii look graphically weaker to casual gamers.

Nah...I mean if I do a hook, the character does a hook.If I do an uppercut the character does an uppercut.
That is what I mean.

Tilting the wiimote doesn't cut it.
Isn't this supposed to be the future of gaming Nintendo?
Because to me it seems real half arsed the way things are implemented on the Wii.

The only thing that truly works is the pointer.
