The game will begin in a dilapidated town, where as one of the only residents, you'll be tasked with sprucing up your shack and enticing new Sims to live and work in the neighbourhood. While current Mii customisation is comparatively limited, MySims will increase the ability to change individual facial features, skin, clothing and tattoos.
The Sims has always been a game under house arrest - the majority of the events took place within your cosy walls. MySims aims for a more community-oriented approach, allowing greater town exploration - somewhat akin to that other Nintendo exclusive license, Animal Crossing. Character interaction is paramount; ONM says: "By using the relationships menu you can keep tabs on who likes you, who thinks you could do with a wash, and who wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire."
Taking a cue from Lego, a rather simple gameplay addition will be block-building of sorts. No longer will various household furniture and decorations be restricted to pre-developed items; players can actually construct original creations themselves. House construction and alteration is also handled in a similar fashion.
Another new feature is entitled "Essence". That's a happy-chappy version of the "spirit" of objects, which can be extracted and used for decoration purposes. Seeds are also able to be planted, which adds an element of Harvest Moon gameplay.
Finally, a total of 80 characters will be available in the Wii version, while the similar, portable DS version will feature 30. MySims is scheduled for a Japan 2007 release, but there's no word as yet regarding PAL dates. For a trailer video, check out the official site.
