NiGHTS looking dreamy

Wii News | Five new shots show off Sega sequel.
Hot on the heels of yesterday's tidbits from producer Takeshi Iizuka come these five new screens of the Wii's NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.

Yesterday, we reported on how producer Iizuka had promised to remain as faithful as possible to the concept behind the Saturn version of NiGHTS, and also discussed how the follow-up would offer players two different control configurations. To read the rest of what Iizuka had to say, point and click here.

Dare I say that the graphics in this game look terrible? Is the wii only capable of this level of graphics? Or is it just that the game is in the early stages of development?
I don't mind about the graphics if the gameplay is tip top, it's just I personally haven't seen a game on the wii yet that doesn't have gamecube like graphics, or worse really.

On another note, very excited about this game icon_biggrin.gif

It looks like a Dreamcast game.

Technically speaking, the Wii is a lot more powerful than the Gamecube, though there are barely any games that suggest so.

I doubt the 'early development' card can be played. Chances are if they're ready to release screenshots to the public, they're not likely to go back and remodel and texture all the characters and environments.

^ In answer:

"Accordingly, the graphics of the original version of the video game will be preserved, so you won't feel differently and a bit lost when you finally get your hands on NiGHTS."

Looks like the game will be made to mimic the weather right outside your front door via the Weather Channel.

What a nice way of saying "we can't be arsed updating the graphics to suit the more powerful hardware, it's NiGHTS you idiots, you'll buy it if it looked like the collective feces of every Sega member because you are consumer whores, now... did we mention a game is coming out with Mario and Sonic featured?"

Nights looking dreamy
More like dreary amirite?

It's pretty awful, even for a Gamecube game. I've never played a NiGHTS game before so not even nostalgia can save those screens for me.

If this really is a game built ground up for the Wii, there is no excuse for the game to look as bad as it does. There's a standard that has been set by the Gamecube for the 'Wii generation' of games so for a brand new game to look this bad is simply mind boggling, not to mention frustrating.

Looks pretty poor, Sonic Wii looks much better.

Looks like it will be up to Metroid and Mario alone to show what the machine an actually do.

i was hoping that the graphics can compliment both the innovative controls of the wii and power which people say have more than the gamecube, every fan must be turning in their chairs when they see what it looks like. Or maybe fans are still happy that there is still going to be a sequel afterall.

I really do hope that they go to the effort of updating the graphics, otherwise it'd be as simple as ripping the models from the previous game and slapping on a new story with some cool features like the weather channel. Oooooh! Ahhhhh! icon_razz.gif

If they don't, that'll be a sad day indeed.

I'd be impressed if it were a PSP game. *hint*

I have no confidence in Sega to make a good game. I can't see how anyone could be looking forward to this with any sort of optimism.

Sega are garbage these days.

OK so the graphics don't look that great. Its almost like Nintendo's "graphics aren't everything" statement seems to be giving 3rd parties an excuse to get lazy, I agree with David, but I think it will be more specificly Metroid that will show us what the machine is capable of.

NiGHTS Into Dreams on the Saturn is one of those games that I will never forget, so I will still be watching this one closely, I will still get it if its anywhere near as good as the original.

Actually those are Saturn screens - hehe.

It would have been better just to re release the original on VC. Although maybe the Wii is not powerful enough to emulate the Saturn.

hAHAHAHAHAH!! Oh my god that looks rubbish! Looks like they've used the backgrounds from Star Fox....the N64 version!

Oh man....I shouldnt've even bothered buying component cables for my Wii....i mean what's the point?

After seeing the graphics on Umbrella Chronicles i know the Wii can do much better! Actually I thought Excite Truck looked pretty good (nice particle effects) aswell....so no reason why Nights can't.

Aside from their Virtua Fighter series....I completely agree.
