TurboGrafx-16 Games coming to Aussie Virtual Console on July 6

Wii News | Nintendo confirms pricing.
Hudson has revealed on their official website that TurboGrafx-16 titles will be coming to the Australian Virtual Console in July.

This is actually quite a surprise as it paves the way for other titles not released in Australia to be released on the Virtual Console, such as Super Mario RPG. Games we can expect to see from July on the Virtual Console include Bomberman '93, Dungeon Explorer, Bonk's Adventure, R-Type, Alien Crush, Dragon's Curse, Bonk's Revenge, Vigilante and Ninja Spirit.

UPDATE: Nintendo has confirmed this today via press release, the first titles will be available from July the 6th on the Wii and the titles will be priced at 600 Nintendo points.

Finally getting TurboGrafx-16 games on the Virtual Console is a huge win for me cuz that system had so many shmups and it had some of the best graphics for a 16 bit system.
^ yeah the graphics don't seem too shabby for that day and age. Don't understand all the shmups love though....

oh and Luke, one slight hiccup in your article:

It's Dungeon Explorer icon_smile.gif

@David (when he turns up here): so will u change ur Wii-region back to Australia eventually?

I'm happy with this. Not because I want TurboGrafx-16 games, but it makes me happy to think when the Neo-Geo VC hits that we should and will get them eventually. My biggest fear was us missing out on Neo-Geo games like TG-16.

But more games onto VC is never a bad thing!

Well this news might make me go and buy a Wii again icon_smile.gif

Will be nice to play the Turbografx titles, hopefully we get Splatterhouse

i loved splatterhouse, was it the same as the arcade version? I used to hit that machine up at the local seven eleven when they replaced POW i could never figure out what to do at the end of the first level in that room full of those creatures that jump all over the place. maybe i was just never meant to play that game.

Heehee yatta!

I want some Splatterhouse action too.

Hrmmm... maybe its one of those games you had to play 'at the time', but I got Splatterhouse of the UK VC and I found it pretty... well, crappy.

*shrug*

Eitherway, it'll be nice to have access to the TG-16 games without having to bugger about changing the region and paying the expensive bloody UK prices.

That's good news. Do we know if they're just going to put up all the ones that have already been released in Australia or do a staggered release?

I hope it's the former.

It's probably easier from a logistical point of view to just hit a switch and have the Aus and Euro VC lists completely aligned. I really doubt Nintendo Australia could be bothered manually updating the TurboGrafx games independently.

Unfortunately, I've already got the two TurboGrafx titles I was interested in. But, it's still good news for future releases.

Am I the only one who pretty much stopped getting virtual console games after a couple of weeks?

Well I guess it's like a lot of retro games, you really needed to experience the title when it was first released to appreciate it now and even then its more for nostalgia reasons. At least for me it is, such as "wow I remember playing that back in the '80s"

600 points is very good isn't it? SNES and Megadrive are 800 points. Unless I am missing something? The TurboGrafx was similar in graphics to the other two wasn't it? (Never played one obviously)

So it seems it was Hudson's decision not to release them here, which makes sense as they're handling their US releases. They must have seen the sales figures and decided there's some $$ to be made, even though it costs several hundred dollars to get a game rated by the OLFC.

When Australia catches up, and if there are no problems, yeah probabaly. Right now I'm already having fun with Ninja Spirit and Bonk's Revenge, so there's no rush.

So should I go for Bomberman 93, or hold out for Super Bomberman?

This is the biggest piece of news all month as far as I can tell.

I hope it does pave the way for Super Mario RPG icon_biggrin.gif

EDIT: before anyone refutes, we are only 8 days into the month icon_lol.gif

I'll also sound off with about damn time!

I got Splatterhouse from the UK Virtual Shoppe' Channel and its not as great as I hoped. As a matter of fact, ill file it under 'List of VC Regrets'..

The best Splatterhouse title IMO is Wanpakku Grafitti (NES) which is Splatterhouse in super deformed style. Truly excellent!

Now I wont have to change regions to pick up Wonderboy: The Dragon's Curse (aka The Dragon's Trap).

Does this eman we get all the ones the UK has in the one day, or do we have to wait for them to be 'realeased'?

Oh, and either way: YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
