Pre E3 2007: Spyro: The Eternal Night revealed

Wii News | Darkness will fall.
Sierra Entertainment have revealed today via a press release that the next Spyro game to come out of Aussie developer, Krome Studios, will be called The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night. A sequel to last year's The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, Eternal Night will follow the story of the Ape King who goes to the ancient Temple of Souls in order to release darkness upon the world. Spyro however, takes charge and attempts to overthrow this new evil as well as uncover the mysteries surrounding his frequent visions.

Returning to the game are several gameplay mechanics of A New Beginning including the game's focus on action-based gameplay and combat. Additionally, there will be four new breath attacks including the Ice Bomb, Electric Orb, Earth Vine and Enhanced Fire as well as four new elemental melee and fury attacks. Sierra Entertainment have also promised players can look forward to monstrous boss-battles with the likes of Skabb the Pirate, Gaul the Ape King and many more.

A new "Dragon Time" ability has also been confirmed which will allow players to bend time in order to "dodge attacks, out-maneuver enemies or solve tricky time-based environmental puzzles."

“We’re really excited to continue the re-emergence of one of video gaming’s most popular characters through this ongoing trilogy,” said Al Simone, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing for Sierra Entertainment . “The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night takes the action and excitement of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning to the next level with new breath attacks, fury modes, and the introduction of the new ‘Dragon Time’ ability to deliver an exciting experience that Spyro fans and gamers of all ages will love.”

Voice actors Elijah Wood and Gary Oldman are also set to reprise their roles as Spyro and Ignitus respectively. Eternal Night will be released on the PlayStation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance in Spring (September-November) or Autumn for our European readers, this year.

I thought Spyro was a Sony IP?

Not to me! I <3 Spyro. At least, Insomniac's Spyro.

I don't like what Krome have done with the series. Ok, so they did manage to salvage what ever mess the previous owners did to the IP, and for that they've got my admiration. Always happy to see the local talent doing well.

BUT...

as impressive as Krome's Spyro looks and (apparently) played, the license is but a shadow of its former self.

Not a even a shadow. The gameplay has been twisted and deformed to attract todays drooling buck-toothed masses. Why of all the license's out there, did it have to be Spyro?

I suppose once Insomniac let it go it was already beyond hope, but that doesn't make it any less painful to see this once throughly entertaining platformer-adventure game turn into God of War for kids icon_sad.gif

Spyro: A New Beginning was the first game i got on DS, and sure it was a pretty good game while it lasted, but it lasted less than a week. I'm pretty sure I won't get this game unless I hear a lot of good talk about it in reviews etc, but I don't expect this game to be that good.

No Spade as Sparx. Think Phillip Fry

Well it is, but they have sold off the license to others. I'd imagine they would still get royalties.

Hmm... answer this: which Krome studio is working on this title? I want to know what Krome Melbourne are working on.

And another bullet-time-like ability... gee.

^ So true, Mark. You guys gotta do a 'overused' game mechanic/play feature.

My guess for #2 would be regenerative health in shooters. Damn Halo ruined the HealthPack business.

This is turning into a deadly cycle.

Spyro original > Spro gets worse > wait> Reborn Spyro > Sypro Gets worse > wait > spyro reborn......

Much like the Crash Bandicoot series.

Spyro the Dragon, the original "Spyro" PSOne videogame by Insomniac Games was the all time best PlayStation game along with the original three Crash Bandicoot games by Naughty Dog. Now, in the present day, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon have been ruined. Crash now sucks ass but I am so excited that they released Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation Store. Hopefully they'll do the same for Spyro the Dragon. Now, with these Crash of the Titans and The Eternal Nights the series is boring and sucks big time. But at least both Naughty Dog and Insomniac games have moved to different gaming icons, Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank.
I hope Insmoniac and Naughty Dog would come back and remake their original Spyro and Crash games for PS3 with heaps kool graphics and stuff or maybe come back and create all-new Spyro and Crash games and bin the other developers who ruined the series.
P.S. Can't wait for Tools of Destruction!!!!!!!
