Okami confirmed for Wii

Wii News | More adventuring wolves on the Wii.
Rumours have persisted about a possible Wii version of Clover Studio's take on the Zelda formula Okami almost since the game's original release on the PlayStation 2. With the pointing mechanic of the 'celestial brush' being one of the game's primary features, a port to the console with the best pointing controls ever certainly made sense, as did bringing a Zelda type game on the audience that bought almost four million copies of Twilight Princess (almost five million if the GameCube version is counted). On the other hand, Okami sold quite poorly on the PlayStation 2, so there was no guarantee that it would sell any better on the Wii's smaller userbase.

Possibly buoyed by knockout sales of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (which has more then doubled Capcom's stated sales expectations), it has finally been formally announced that Okami will make it's way to the Wii early in 2008. The game will be ported by Ready at Dawn, will have a pointer based celestial brush, and will also feature some tweaking to further involve the Wii's motion controls.

So far no mention of any extra content or changes to the main quest, but as usual we'll keep you informed.

Will pick this up given I never played the PS2 version. Hopefully they'll also tweak the visuals slightly, just to bring the game's quality up a little. Not that I care, it's just many people who own Wii's and would get this game have played Wind Waker, which I believe a few people have said is more graphically sound than Okami.

Damn, bout time they announced this. With Bully and Okami coming out towards the end of the PS2 life cycle, its good to see these titles getting a new audiance with the wii. Hopefully it will be a solid port along the lines of RE4.

Great news - I'll definately be picking this up.

Windwaker and Okami have completly different graphical styles - you can't really say one looks better than the other.

Budget price and I'll be all over this.

Hell yes. I've put off buying it on the PS2 in hopes of this coming out for two reasons. a) because I didn't like playing my PS2 (and it keeps getting DRE) and b) because I like playing my Wii! I'm extremely excited about this!

i always thought this was a wii title when i first saw it, even though it started on ps2 i still felt it would be more suited for the wii.

Definatly going to play this. I'm really excited about this news and like legend166, will purchase this once it gets cheap ($79 should not be considered a budget price).

Luckily I've only played the first part on PS2. Think I'll hold out for the Wii version. Feels like it will be a much more complete game.

If this has any extras at all then I'll be picking up the Wii version, because I'm only a bit through the PS2 version.

Its good that you Nintendo-only gamers get to experience this beautiful game. Even though Clover has been disbanded, I still hope it sells well.

F**K YEAH!!! My patience pays off, I'd been wanting to get Okami for ages but every time my hand reached for it I'd slap it back thinking "NO! It's best suited for Wii, if they don't make it for Wii they shouldn't have my money."
This is great news icon_biggrin.gif

it was just so well suited to the wii from the start, but i suppose it was easier to develop for the ps2 at the time it was made,
since im one of the 6 people who dont have a ps2 ill definitely get this one on wii

Great! This also means that Ready at Dawn isn't [only] in bed with Sony.
