Animal Crossing Wii goes MMO

Wii Rumour | World of Resetti-Craft?
CVG is reporting that Edge Magazine have managed to get their hands on a juicy rumour for the latest iteration of Nintendo's successful Animal Crossing series.

Edge Magazine claim that an anonymous Japanese source has come forward to reveal that Animal Crossing for Wii will be a social networking MMO. As yet, there has been no official announcement for the game, save for its existence. However, last year, Katsuya Eguchi (head of development for Animal Crossing Wii) gave an interview to IGN, stating that, "Right now we're currently considering our options in terms of what we can do...through WiiConnect24."

Edge Magazine is widely regarded as a reliable source. However, until an official announcement is made, bear in mind that any number of changes can occur in a game's development cycle.

I enjoyed my time online with Animal Crossing DS, actually...

^ 'Twas a bit shaky online, though. A lot of connection errors.

Anyway, I'll be all over this; I still play the DS game daily and love it.

Really? I never had any problems. That said, I did only begin using online about a year after it came out - maybe they had problems in the beginning, but fixed them up.

I really hope this is true, it would stop Animal Crossing from getting stale (DS and GameCube versions were extremely similar) on the Wii and just having, "Swing axe to cut down tree! See, it's completely new!". This would also be good news as surely it would mean the end of friend codes? Or am I being too optomistic?

You're being too optimistic. They would/will find SOME WAY to ruin it with friend codes. It's the horrible truth! A straight up Animal Crossing MMO where everyone belonged to the same 'city' would be amazing! Trying to sneak into someones backyard to stomp all their flowers would be so damn fun.

If the whole game is online only then that would be awesome. I'm a bit sick of the single-player stuff, communicating with friends etc is the way to go for Animal Crossing imo and if this is the case then i'll be all over the Wii version.

MMO for Animal Crossing sounds great. It makes sense, Nintendo has always said it will be the game to show off WiiConnect24, so if they don't make this much greatly improved then the other two, what's the incentive for buying it again if it's pretty much the same? So I'm all for MMO Animal Crossing.

Maybe HOME now has some competition. Animal Crossing sold a bundungolonk.

ohh i would think if they brought this out as a MMO and Pokemon as a MMO well you bloody have a lot of people. I think if they did that it would be instant win period.

If this was true I'd stop putting it off and get a Wii ASAP..

Should breathe new life into the series too. I loved the game on DS and I thought the wifi play was the icing on the cake, to see it expanded like this on the Wii would be fantastic.

Also goes along well with AC's themes of communication and community.

Pack in it with the Wii Harddrive for instant super duper win.

Except that would make too much sense for Nintendo, it will instead by packed in with little crappy gardening attachments for your Wiimote.

...I'd still buy it.
